I finally got to bike in Vancouver and it turns out their slow streets can have real diverters without the whole city burning down. And they have the budget for concrete somehow, and the staffing to install it. Cars can take a two minute longer route and it's fine and nobody has died. There are benches and tables that you don't have to pay money to use and yet the city has not become overrun with crime. It's ok, we have the technology, we can do this

A street with half of it fenced off for benches. There is also a bike share station
A street says "do not enter except bikes". The road narrows with trees and other plants, and a park bench, installed where the road once went.

WackyIdeas,
@WackyIdeas@mastodon.social avatar

@sanae In , five different politically connected contractors would be engaged and the project would cost thousands of dollars per
Inch. In Florida, road building may be a racket with the industry funneling a percentage of their government contracts back to politicians through campaign contributions. @Npars01

One of the more frustrating exchanges I see on social media:

a: Vote for Biden!
b: But Biden has done bad things!
a: But Trump is so much worse!
b: If that’s your only reason, it’s not enough to make me vote.

I would like to point out four small facts:

  1. Biden has done a bunch of good things.
  2. Trump didn’t.
  3. Trump has promised to do such terrible things that “not Trump” is enough for me.
  4. People against voting Biden don’t have another plan of any kind.
