Wow whee - just got an email from #PayPal to say that my #LastFM yearly subscription price changed from $30 to $50.
Crazy stuff. I get that inflation is a thing; but the site is entirely user contributed data - from the scrobbling of the tracks to editing data and uploading images and links in the database.
And they sell that data to other companies. And haven’t updated their website or apps in so, so, long. The whole thing is pretty much in maintenance mode.

Müsste das nicht theoretisch gleich groß sein der Betrag oder warum gibt es da einen Unterschied #PayPal ?
Naja: Jedenfalls spendet doch gerne auch mal eurer Mastodon Plattform einen kleinen Betrag, damit das Fediverse groß bleibt und nicht dann irgendwann Plattformen dicht machen müssen, weil die Spardose leer ist.
Das wäre furchtbar Schade für die Community.
Bitte spendet keine Unsummen und macht euch deswegen aber auch nicht Pleite. Spendet lieber regelmäßig kleine Summen, wenn ihr das wollt. Das ist einfach nachhaltiger für die Plattform!
In meinem Fall habe ich jetzt freiwillig einen kleinen Betrag an @MastodonDE gespendet, damit die Plattform mastodon.de ihre kosten etwas mehr decken kann.
Viele gute Server brauchen viel Leistung, also ist es nur sinnvoll, wenn viele Leute kleine Beträge spenden, um solche Server lange zu erhalten.
Das hilft auch allen, die es sich nicht leisten können Geld für Dienste zu zahlen und prägt nachhaltig die Plattformen Landschaft so das diese kostenfrei bleiben für alle. 😀

I got burnt personally by them but even if I hadn’t they are among the least ethical options. There are some vendors selling products I would like to buy but they accept paypal exclusively, so I walk… and go without. Recently I have encountered some small brick and mortar shops/cafes that use “Zettle”. #Zettle is paypal. So if I see Zettle and they don’t take cash, I walk out. They share data with over 600 corporations so I will not allow Paypal to serve as a payment processor of my credit or debit card. Paypal are rotten to the core scumbags. They have some sneaky tricks for keeping people’s money under the guise of AML/KYC/anti-fraud, even though they are not a bank and escape those regulations anyway. It’s no surprise Elon Musk and Peter Thiel were involved with the founding of that company.
