Riding my mobility scooter to the river. Bringing my ukulele, beef jerky snack & water 🙂

It takes me exactly 8 minutes to ride from our home to one of my fave spots by nearby #ColquitzRiver. I have a few fave spots around this local nature park. It connects with several other local #Saanich parks.

#ColquitzCreek / River is an important #waterway & part of our local #watershed. It's stewarded, by locals.

Stolen and reposted because "no alt text" which is especially relevant when you're trying to get a message across to everyone with your posts. Inclusion isn't a buzzword my dude.

@VeroniqueB99 I don't understand why it wasn't for you. I'm a disabled person, disability advocate & accessibility consultant, with several blind & visually impaired family & friends. There's help options for to get more assistance. Putting it in comments doesn't help visually impaired or blind folks, it's ableist.

I ask people to try to imagine themselves blind, trying to navigate social media multimedia when there's no AltText provided & being ostracized by it

Understanding #DisabilityInclusion & #Ableism.

#PeopleWithDisabilities are integral parts of our world & community, yet they often face #inaccessible or #unwelcoming spaces online. The word #disability itself is a limiting term, as it refers to an immense spectrum of experiences. #Disabilities can affect a person’s auditory, cognitive, neurological, linguistic, visual, emotional or physical abilities moving through the world, both online & offline.

Great fun, & drumming in our first races! We did pretty good, considering we've had only 7 practices. We beat a more experienced team that has trained twice/week for a few years in our last race with time of 1:08 minutes!

I'm exhausted & bit sore. Putting ice packs on & then having a long hot bath 🛀

Me & two fellow paddlers. Two women, one on each side of me.
Our team, in dragon boat, braking to hold.

#Workers who are #neurodivergent or have other #disabilities are already prone to facing barriers, but Ms. Campbell’s experience highlights another barrier that emerges when the language used in #JobAds inadvertently weeds out #PeopleWithDisabilities.

This likely contributes to the persistent #underrepresentation of people with disabilities in #Canada’s work force.

Although I've healed a lot from past relationship, there's still some leftover stuff that I'm trying to work through. I know one of the reasons I actively avoid accepting dates is due to feeling like I'm going to burden someone because I'm disabled & have progressive illnesses. I don't want to be a burden on anyone. I don't believe I'm a burden on family/friends in my life. Devaluation of who I am by ex is why I'm still working through the post-abusive damage.

Far from meeting the expectations of #disability organizations – along with any of the scenarios presented by the PBO – the #GovernmentOfCanada has instead created a #CDB with a maximum annual support level of $2,400/person.

And despite widespread warnings about accessing the CDB through #DTC eligibility alone, the #Trudeau government has retained this #tax measure as the only way to qualify for the benefit.

Heading out to our last team practice of the month! Our first race is next Sunday, May 26th. I'll post more info about that, after this weekend.

Good last May training day with our #ParaDragonboating team, Storm the Gorge. We've only had 7 team practices in #VictoriaBC's 1st #PilotProgram for #PeopleWithDisabilities, running out of #FairwayGorgePaddlingClub on Jutland in #BurnsideGorge area. After practice wrap debriefing, I performed an Indigenous water song, to honour the waters we train & will be racing on & to protect our team on the waters.

Para dragon boat team is loaded in boat. Our coach is on dock, pointing at boat.
Part of our team with me in middle. I'm holding a hand drum & talking about gifting the song to Gorge waterway & our team.

I will be moving into #outrigger #paddling training sessions, after May 26th Gorge Fairway Super Sprints dragon boat season opener races.
I'll need to coordinate my outrigger training dates with my #ParaSailing training, which starts in June. I'm training with Able Sail, to obtain recertification for my #WhiteSails. Able Sail runs their #sailing programs for #PeopleWithDisabilities out of Oak Bay marina. I'm looking forward to sailing those waters. Only sailed Esquimalt & Metchosin areas prior.
