Pre-holiday recording/plugin/gear sales were a big deal for me a few years ago. Maybe I’m past my gear-head days because nothing appeals to me this year in the sales ads.
Did I miss something good? And yes, I’m really curious to know.
@muz4now I think gear snobbery and gear paralysis is simply a symptom of insecurity when it comes to writing and recording.
Use what you have with the time you have to create what you can with the knowledge you have.
enjoy the process, not the gear
I wonder what #ardour is doing different to #bitwig in terms of their #flatpak builds. I noticed that some #plugins run just fine in Ardour while Bitwig Studio reports problems with reading metadata or glibc version conflicts. 🙄️ #sandboxing#debugging#daw#linuxdaw
How many #plugins do you have installed on your system? 🫣️ I always remove the ones I do not use and currently sport the following numbers: #clap: 36 / #lv2: 22 / #vst2: 92 / #vst3: 104
If I subtract different variants of the same plug-in, I get 92 individual plug-ins. Feels like a lot to me! 😝️ #musicproduction#daw#inthebox#linux#macos#windows#linuxaudio
@x42@ercanbrack 2/5 I find a future #vision in which the system #packagemanager (e.g. pacman) would only have to manage packages for the #operatingsystem and all #thirdparty#applications (and #plugins?) would be managed via #flatpak, simply put, intriguing. 😇️
On my computers, I already maintain all third party applications via Flatpak, while pacman takes care of the OS.
@x42@ercanbrack 4/5 Since I help #vendors with #debugging their #plugins for #linux I found the idea appealing that they could simply offer their plugins via #flatpak with less worries.
Because what they don't want (and what often even keeps them from supporting Linux) are OS-specific problems (e.g. runs on #ubuntu, not on #arch etc.). They are usually downright afraid of #fragmentation and the associated support effort. 🤯️
If you don't know them yet, I can only recommend to take a listen at the @auburnsounds#plugins. I like them a lot not only for their sonic abilities but also for their creative and original concepts and user interfaces. https://www.auburnsounds.com/#linuxaudio
@fullbucket There seems to be quite a bit of work ahead before #linuxsupport for #iplug2 will land, if I am correct. Still, great news that you plan to offer #linuxaudio builds of your #plugins as soon as the #framework will support it. You are awesome! Can't wait to be playing with your #instruments and #effects! ☺️🥳😇
For anyone unaware, Google Chrome is currently rolling out an update that track your interests based on browsing history, then share them with 3rd party websites. The notification page makes it sound like they added a new privacy feature, but in actuality they automatically enrolled you into their tracking system and you have to go and manually opt out.
@Matjoe@itsfoss I feel like #linuxaudio has made a lot of progress over the last couple of years. Not only in terms of #plugins available natively (see e.g. https://linuxdaw.org/) but in particular because of #pipewire. If you want to give it another try I'd be there to help (if I can). 🫣️🙂️ PD: I sold my arsenal on UA interface and accelerators and went on to an #rme#fireface#usb#classcompliant interface with an AD extension unit and never looked back. 🤓️
