was 1st introduced by Halstead in 1986, where he described the symptoms (muscle weakness, pain, & fatigue) experienced by survivors who had stabled functional life before being diagnosed for PPS. The 1st description of PPS was in 1875 in French medical literature by Raymond & Charcot. In 1991, Halstead reviewed his criteria for the diagnosis of PPS & these include new muscle weakness as a required criterion for diagnosis, w/other symptoms such as cold intolerance, pain & fatigue.

Please understand that it takes A LOT of personal work, from us survivors who now live with PPS. is a long recognized . Yet, many of us who suffer from it, find it difficult to get knowledgeable medical help to manage it well.

If you have , I have bad news for you. You're gonna have to adapt/manage best you can because govt & ppl won't help you much. Both of those entities knew about PPS for decades, yet ppl like me still have to fight to get help.

  1. Mom was 26 yrs old & I was 8 yrs old. In front of BC legislature. Wearing my fave red ruffle neck sweater vest, wide leg jeans; Mom let me wear her red lipstick that day. I'm unhappy about my mismatched Frankenstein orthotic boot - ppl used to stare at/make fun of them/me. It took years for me to be able to wear regular, matching boots.

[ are still suffering from today, but the is much rarer than it once was. In this short article, I want to show how far the world has come in our battle against polio, and I want to show that we today have the opportunity to once and for all. This — the of polio — would surely rank among ’s greatest achievements. ]

Several older members of my family have had life-time disabilities due to polio. I am passionate about vaccination as a result. Read this account of a wonderful man who lived over 70 years lying in an iron lung due to catching polio when he was six years old:

This man really was inspirational. It makes me angry thnking that polio will probably experience a resurgence due to irresponsible parents refusing to vaccinate their offspring. https://www.express.co.uk/news/us/1876938/polio-paul-dies-iron-lung-70-years/amp

New polling finds only 67 per cent of Canadian parents say they would vaccinate their child "without reservation," down from 88% five years ago.

"We don't believe vaccines work"

Unfortunately, medical advancement has created this false sense of security in younger adults that all childhood illnesses are mild or treatable.

Gearing up to the 16th birthday of the Flickr Commons in less than two weeks. With millions of photos in the Commons and more coming in (nearly) every day it's hard to pick favorites.

Here's one from this week, from the State Library of New South Wales showing Shirley Winter using her toes to thread a needle in 1954, after losing the use of her hands due to polio 30 years earlier.

When I visit my physician, not a mask in sight, other than the one I am wearing. Vaccination rate in my county is extremely low—less than 20% Non-vaccination rate correlates with Trump voter rate, which was about 85%. Quite a few of these are former students (or their parents or siblings). I TAUGHT SCIENCE!! I feel like a failure.

msquebanh,

@Yorgus @thepoliticalcat I am a who got via live vaccine & I still support . I don't think my rare case, very low percentage of ppl like me - reason to be against vaccines. They saves billions of lives. No vaccine is 100% protection but it increases chances of survival & it has helped many from getting illnesses that are preventable. I don't take my awful experience personally. I see the bigger picture. It's bigger than just ME.

Wish ppl understood this w/

@JenLucPiquant This is scary stuff. The anti-vax disinformation campaigns will kill people and reduce life expectancy, probably more than even . Approved vaccines work to prevent serious diseases and are safe. Do people want to see children with in iron lungs again?
