📣 Introducing the new Proton Mail #macOS and #Windows apps, including:
🌓 Light & dark mode
📆 Integrated #ProtonCalendar
🎭 Hide-my-email aliases
🔔 Dedicated app notifications
♻️ Auto-updates for the latest improvements
➕ And more
While #degoogling my phone, I deleted one system file that didn't need deleting, and now no calendar apps will work. It's a great relief that #protoncalendar doesn't need that system file.
Look what just landed in my inbox! This just made my day.
My Proton Partner application has been approved and I’m excited to be a new #ProtonPartner. Looking forward to getting all situated into the environment.
Now all I need to do is convince my wife to allow me to purchase @protonmail unlimited. Then I can move everything over.
I just discovered that Proton now offers a desktop app for Mac :apple_old_logo: (yes!) and Windows. However, in beta version and only for paying subscribers to one their plans.
But it does not change the fact that I now have a really nice and well-functioning mail and calendar app in combination with each other.
Thank you @protonmail for that opportunity 😊
Thanks to your initial feedback, these include improvements like:
🗓️ Easier access to Proton Calendar
⏩ Easy migration from #Gmail
🚨 Notification badges
🔠 Improved accessibility and font support
For example, I can't use ProtonPass to store a randomly generated password for my email, as it uses my #Proton account. Also, assuming I now use a password for my ProtonMail, if the password becomes comprised in whatever way, my password manager is also compromised.
This effect is cascaded by the fact that ProtonPass can be used as a #passwordmanager and #2FA, so I can't use it for my 2FA for my email.
This is probably one of my few reasons to not switch from #Bitwarde.
Finally bit the bullet and signed up for a free @protonmail account today. I’m testing it out but will probably upgrade to an #Unlimited plan since I’m looking to get away from the Googs (mail, calendar, drive) & was in the market for a #VPN I could eventually put on a router and my mobile devices anyway. #Proton#ProtonMail#ProtonCalendar#ProtonDrive
I just had another quick test of #ProtonCalendar .... I'm really happy to see the internal sharing capabilities coming in place.
The only truly missing feature now is basically a bridge solution so I can have my calendar in Thunderbird. Is such a bridge in your plans?
Also, how integrated is the calendar on #Anrdoid these days? I've not tested it this time, as last time it was completely unintegrated and was quite a hazzle to get other apps adding events to the calender. I can probably get used to using only the Proton Calendar app on Android - but an interface for other apps to add events is a must.
As this is progressing, I'm getting closer to replace #EteSync for calendars with Proton Calendar. But you're still not quite there yet, unfortunately.
Looking for first hand experience / review of Proton Mail (and any of their related apps). I've signed up for the free tier but would need to commit to a higher one if I go all in. Going from free Gmail to $100 per year for..ever...has me pausing.
How's the reliability? Any concerns I should be aware of? If my family is all in on iCloud, should I just stick with that?
@protonmail Just signed up for the Family Plan and is very excited about it :)
Question that I haven't found the answer for (yet): My wife’s favorite calendar app in iOS is WeekCal (for some reason). Can she make her own ProtonCalendar and then view and edit it in WeekCal? As far as I can see it collects it’s data from Settings —> Calendar —> Accounts. #Proton#ProtonCalendar
@protonmail the calendar is extremely slow to load on Android. It's seriously affecting my ability to function. Are the following improvements planned and if so what are the timelines?
Event caching - events load so slow currently
Different timezones for start and end time
Being able to edit an event that's been shared
Being able to create events offline
Being able to sync events with a third party client like Thunderbird
