In Extreme Programming, we picked a new pair programmer every day. I decided that was nonsense, and adopted Pete. We paired for the next nineteen years. He preferred the title "alpha" to "principal staff," but he shared his opinions whether you wanted them or not. He logged off this morning. Rest easy, friend.

P.S., this is what he thought of YAML.

@laimis My dad used to tell funny stories about Jim Brown. He was one of the reasons I got interested in football.

RIP Andy Rourke.

Listening to The Smiths for the first time in a while and remembering just how incredible that music was when I first encountered it in the 1980s.

That You-Know-Who turned into a bigot shouldn't mean I can't enjoy music made by the band as a collective.

I know it's a complex discussion (and not one for a micro-blogging site) but I can't allow such a precious and formative part of my youth get stolen away by the latter-day nastiness of some wanker

I remember listening to John Peel on Radio 1 back in the early 1980s waiting to hear new and fresh sounds. I remember being blown away one night when I heard "What Difference Does It Make" by The Smiths. I couldn't believe what I was hearing, so much musical energy against this haunting vocalist...

When I went to Uni, my room-mate was crazy about the Smiths so I got even deeper into them. Meat is Murder is one of my all time favourite albums...

Heartbroken to here of Andy Rourke's death at only 59 years old. A great bass player in a great band...

Jack Rebney, AKA the Winnebago Man, has passed away at the age of 93 years old.

Known as 'The Angriest Man in the World,' he became a viral sensation, first on VHS then on YouTube, for a series of twenty-year-old outtakes from a Winnebago sales video featuring profane outbursts.

He is the subject of the 2009 documentary, 'Winnebago Man.'

A gaming icon leaves us 😢 💔
Pretty much the complete vocal embodiment of golden age Crash: N. Brio, N. Gin, Tiny Tiger and of course, the legendary bandicoot himself!
His voice shaped every '90s kid's childhood and will always be remembered.
RIP Brendan O'Brien 💙

I was sad to see that Heather Armstrong passed. She was a pioneer in the personal blogging space.

I can't say that I often agreed with her in terms of overall outlook, but I always respected that she did things her way.

Yesterday I finished reading "Hope: A Tragedy." Last night I watched my neighbor remove a homeless woman he found sleeping on his front steps. Today I read Jordan Neely's last words.
"I don't have food, I don't have a drink, I'm fed up. I don't mind going to jail and getting life in prison. I'm ready to die."

We have to ask ourselves, if the situation had been reversed, and the victim had the perpetrator in a headlock, would the other people have intervened? I think we know the answer to that.

“Abigail Addison from Canarsie, Brooklyn:
"I could see he was really holding really tight, and who was there to help him? No one helped. People need to stop being scared and stand up.”
