This driverless Waymo came to a full stop in the bike lane ahead of us, even though there was plenty of space in the passenger loading zone a few feet away. I waited to see if the Waymo would ever pull into the loading zone, but I got tired of waiting after 5 minutes. #SanFrancisco #Waymo #Robotaxi

A photo taken showing the front of a Waymo that is currently parked in a bike lane. The Waymo is in the bike lane, but there is an empty space a few feet away from the Waymo that is painted with a white strip (indicating it is a 10 minutes passenger loading zone). The LCD screen on the top of the Waymo shows the letters "JC", which is the name of the passenger it is picking up.

Self-driving vehicles could be on U.K. roads within two years, after the Automated Vehicles (AV) Act received royal assent to become law.

A core part of the new legislation, which has been in the works since 2022, confirms that corporations will be the ones held responsible in the event of a crash, “meaning a human driver would not be liable for incidents related to driving while the vehicle is in control.”

The video of the Waymo driving the wrong way in my neighborhood was already bad enough, but Google's bullshit excuse makes it worse.

A reasonable human would have turned off and gone on one of the various parallel alternative or sucked it up and driven slowly behind the people riding their unicycles. Instead, the programmers decided the self-driving car was going to double down.

A hit a cyclist because the robotaxi made a dangerous turn. The robotaxi drove too fast for its limited field of vision, couldn't brake in time, and struck a person. This is the same impatient behavior we see from human drivers. It's very simple to program the robotaxi to be more cautious, but safe driving = slower trips = less money.

Robotaxis will never be safe when faster, riskier driving creates more profits

So sah das vor einem guten Monat in Austin aus. Eine Gruppe GM Robotaxis blockierten eine Kreuzung und sorgten fuer ein entsprechendes Verkehrschaos.

California DMV: "Public safety remains the California DMV’s top priority, and the department’s autonomous vehicle regulations provide a framework to facilitate the safe testing and deployment of this technology on California public roads. When there is an unreasonable risk to public safety, the DMV can immediately suspend or revoke permits. There is no set time for a suspension.

The California DMV today notified Cruise that the department is suspending Cruise’s autonomous vehicle deployment and driverless testing permits, effective immediately."
