sigh I really need to come up with a reliable and inexpensive way to power cycle some equipment remotely.

My is up and running but the two software defined radios aren't responding even after rebooting the computer. The computer was involuntarily power cycled twice yesterday when the power went out and when the backup generator transferred the house back to the grid after grid power was restored.

Or maybe the SDRs need to be reseated in their USB ports? 🤔

just giving #sdrangel a try...and wow. So many things! it even has ADS-B and AIS decoding built in. How is this software not more known about?

I have some beginner questions about SDRs:

  1. Do you need to connect an SDR to a computer?

  2. Do you need special software on a computer to access the SDR? Or are they all web-based these days?

I'm looking at possibly getting this:

thank you!

Going for an upgrade on my SDR situation...I currently just have one of the bare cheapest $20 crappy ones that now has a faulty connector (It was using MCX for goodness sake!)

I'm thinking of going for a Nooelec one. Does anybody have any recommendations? preferably below $100AU

If you are an IT professional, cybersecurity specialist or amateur radio operator in Canada - you might consider signing this petition and contacting your MP - banning a specific manufacturer/model of an SDR (software-defined-radio) is sheer lunacy and not going to stop anyone from stealing cars...

Entering hour 12 of being nerd-sniped by throughput failures

I have, so far:

  • Manually set the house's 5 ESP32-based heat pump controllers to their lowest transmission power

  • Adjusted the AP’s 2.4GHz radio to use less power

  • Created a dedicated SSID for streaming clients at exclusively 5GHz

  • Removed short-range extender in the basement

Overall performance is much improved, but I still get an intermittent collapse in throughput. Going to have to pull out the next

Fellow RF nerds, must say this does look a bit exciting:

GPSDO would've been nice, but still sweet as is.

The Canadian government is proposing banning software defined radios. I can only presume because they don't understand how anything works.

Hacking a Philips toothbrush head to allow you to use it beyond its normal lifetime. Yes, the toothbrush head is hackable. This is a fantastic tale of reverse engineering. Be sure to read the followup at the bottom of the article.

A very long overdo #introduction post. Hello! I'm Zach. My primary interests are #SDR, #DSP, #FPGA design, and #GPU computing. I've been doing those for about 16 years, and constantly find holes in my knowledge... so that's fun. In real life I like #cycling and have a growing interest in #solarenergy and #ElectricVehicles. Given infinite time, I'd like to learn #CAD to justify this 3d printer I bought, as well as the infrastructure that goes into making cloud computing work. Feel free to say hi!

I first heard about in the late 90s and didn't think about it a lot, because I figured that was something that would forever remain in the realm of supercomputers and/or custom FPGAs, so I would probably never work with it.

I (foolishly) did not anticipate that by 2023 I'd be able to buy an SDR receiver for $40 that would fit in my pocket (), or a transceiver for $300 (), and just plug it in to my laptop (or phone).

So ... SDR (Software Defined Radio) is amazing!! Where I live makes radio reception (and cell reception) difficult (e.g., I'm clearly in the AT&T 5G coverage area, but only get 1 bar, no 4G, 4GLTE, or 5G - thankful for VOIP). Bought an RTL-SDR dongle with antenna. Spent last night and today learning it. AM still iffy with that TV studio broadcast tower about 200 yards/meter SE of me, but I am very, very impressed. Today found there are tools to listen to the HD Radio broadcasts. And it works (with a fair bit of fiddling). Much better in fact than the stereo on my big Pioneer AudioVideo Receiver even with powered antennas attached to it.
