I have a joke I tell friends when they ask me if I watched a film. I say, "Was it made after 1950, if so then no I haven't watched it."

It's not a 100% true but 90% true.

Keaton used a cutaway apartment building for one of his most spectacular gags. AND there's a great sequence in a NYC public bath.

March 5: Someone named Scott for

Despite its sensationalist pulpy title and premise, Jack Arnold's adaptation of the novel is an existentialist treatise.

The Incredible Shrinking Man (1957) plays with the understanding of what it means to be acknowledged as a human, and one's place in the world. The story is told through the eyes of the titular Shrinking Man – Scott Carey – who after being exposed to strange fog, finds himself increasingly lost in this world.

It's phenomenal and I can only recommend it.

March 8: a shot in for

For authenticity reasons, Clyde Bruckman and Buster Keaton's The General (1926) was – for the most part – filmed on location in Oregon. Set during the , it's a comedic retelling of a popular war memoir about the .

Sadly it was a box office , resulting in Keaton losing his independence and The General entering the as early as 1954. Luckily for us that means we too can enjoy the views of beautiful 1920s Oregon: https://yewtu.be/watch?v=YWm587wKKVw (note: this version has the appropriate piano score but appears to be a missing few minutes).

As I've moved to a new instance, it's time for another - and whereas writing the first one felt deeply uncomfortable, this time it seems a lot easier. That's the transition from Twitter-brain to Mastodon-brain.

Who I am is more or less this: I'm an person who lives in beautiful , and I spend my working time fiddling about with emergency to improve care quality in the . I have issues with and , and I'm an abuse survivor. Because of the past abuse, I keep myself anonymous all over the internet; however, I've been using the Rollo Treadway alias for so long that it feels like part of me, my alter ego. So feel free to call me Rollo.

And I'm okay with they/them pronouns (because I don't really feel I fit within any gender identity) and also he/him (because that's what everyone offline has always used for me). Or frankly, any other pronouns, it's all good.

I migrated to from during 2022 (initially at the start of the year, but properly in the autumn) and am very happy here.

Politically, I'm a , and like my bio says, I really don't have any time for Tories. This includes any close equivalents to Tories in other countries.

I love and , I like to go when I feel physically/mentally able, I'm fascinated by but am hopeless at identifying them. I am very serious about , I am (obviously) devoted to , I'm unhealthily focused on (mostly , and , the white ball stuff isn't really for me), and especially in the . And in , I support .

Finally, I promise this is the last time I will do such a long post, and the last time I will put hashtags in the middle of the post rather than all at the beginning or end. I think hashtags in the middle is permitted for an introduction, or I hope so anyhow.
