Been fun, although my back and knees have been aching at times.
Not bad for a first timer, I think. Hope they like it and the company installing the wheelchair ramp don't make a mess of things. They have certain norms that make the ramp absolutely ginourmous - 7m plus a platform, longer than the entire terrace.
What I've been doing the last two weeks (whenever the weather was benign):
Building a straight terrace on completely wonky foundations. In hindsight, it might've been faster to build a new foundation, but also messier and less fun!
The old terrace had been built haphazardly and from untreated wood and rotted away in a few years until someone crashed through it.
I re-used much of the surviving parts for the frame and the handrails.
During the winter I promised I would post photos of my rooftop terrace, my small paradise I am constantly working on. Technically, it is one of my beloved Happy Places, but sometimes … well, no, I’m not gonna go there.
So, here are four photos. It is still early in the season because until literally about 3-4 days ago it was always raining and some of the plants and trees really didn’t like it and others haven’t grown all their leaves, but still. Especially since today - instead of working on #Cicero / #Ginlo_II - I performed some porn - Power Washing Porn that is - on the terrace and it looks a lot nicer now.
I will post more photos when all of the trees and plants are fully in bloom/leaves...
FYI: the flower pots outside of the terrace are new. There are these pots all around the terrace and we planted cornflower (“bachelor’s button”) in all of them and some hollyhock.
We already have a lot of plants specifically chosen because bees and butterflies love them, but cornflower is very special because bumble bees love them even more. These are cornflowers in all colors, but especially the blue ones.
We also take care of the roof itself as we throw some flower seeds there every year. These are usually plants with shallow roots but we chose them also on when they blossom. Thus the whole roof has food for bees and butterflies throughout spring, summer and autumn - there is always something blossoming.
(and yes, we also have a rose: that rose is the only one we have and it is called “Tiger-Rose” because the ashes of our cat Tiger is buried in that flower pot and the rose grows out of it. Whenever we smell the rose, we smell Tiger) #Paradise#Terrace
