I grew up in the UK. I studied two languages beyond my own. I learned about the Holocaust in German. I don’t have anything in common with these rural white evangelicals and I don’t believe that pastors have been firm enough with them. They are bullies. They have never accepted people not from their culture, like me. And I see no reason to try to fit in with rural whites who will vote for a rapist and call it God’s will. They did this to themselves. 1/2
They don’t want my perspective, however much they might need it. So I’m ok with that. Our only responsibility now as citizens is not to understand the bullies, but to rebuke them and continue being ourselves, doing right, having integrity. We can’t be with people we can’t trust with our lives. They unrepentantly join with those who threaten US with civil war.

I remember the far right saying it was “disrespectful” to 9/11 victims to make comparisons with January 6th. But that deflection is purposeful and deplorable, to manipulate grieving and traumatized family members, a despicable act. And beyond the abuse, they are wrong. The comparison is not between death tolls, or destruction. The comparison is between terrorists and intent to harm. We could grieve united against a foreign enemy. Now we have to deal with an enemy that is domestic. #UnitedStates
