Y'know, I was thinking about leaving the house to go have my usual, but it's, uh, it's 18F with a RealFeel of 6F. Maybe I can, like, stay home for once. le sigh
Looks like we'll have a day or two of freezing temps and possibly some icy precipitation. Staying home if it gets icy and really not planning on going anywhere. So far, the grid seems like it'll hold. #atxwx
That was a crazy hailstorm in north central Austin tonight. Neighbor took a limb to his roof and we were collecting trash cans of water falling through a light fixture onto his bed, swapping them out every few minutes. Insanity.
Today, September 9, is the the day when the 2023 Texas heat wave finally breaks. It’s been 105 since July, trees are dead all over town, and we’re all about done.
Meanwhile, in Texas, the heat dome continues. After several weeks of 105F rain-free weather, I'm now seeing a lot of abnormal leaf loss in the forests around Austin. Dead understory plants, grape vines dying back, even some mature tree death. This place is a tinderbox.
Highs of 108F in Austin for the next few days, we've had no rain for weeks, and the fire danger is very high to extreme. Looking at Hawaii and NWT fires nervously.
The Austin area is a tinderbox after record-breaking heat and weeks of drought. Wildfires today in Pflugerville (northern suburb), Lockhart, and now east Austin.
