C-17s regularly haul cargo and personnel to McMurdo station but here at South Pole our skiway can't support them. Once a year though a C-17 flies through to simulate an emergency cargo airdrop in case we ever needed one. Really cool seeing the big bird today. #avgeek
#SFO was running on a single runway for most of the day. Wind pushed both departures and arrivals to RWY 10 (already a rare condition) but 10R is closed for repairs. Luckily once the worst of the wind started mid-afternoon, the direction had changed enough to move to 19L/R—with an obvious relief in the voices of the controllers.
But still a fun afternoon hanging out with the resident seagull population of the Tanforan Target parking lot. #planespotting#avgeek
English Electric Lightning F.3 in RAF 111 Squadron markings at RAF Leuchars, Fife, Scotland. This aircraft was purchased by the Lightning Preservation Group at Bruntingthorpe and moved there in 2015. 🛩️⚔️📍
R.I.P. Ingenuity- the little helicopter that could! She’s got a damaged blade, so while she still lives, she won’t fly again. I know the feeling… Anyway, job well done! #aviation#avgeek#mars
FAA really has to step up on mental health. FAA really has to step up on mental health. Even seeing a counselor is seen as undoable let alone a psychologist.
The FAA needs to change the rule and be 100% clear on a statement that seeing a counselor for any reason can cannot be used as actionable against you in any way. There has to be a first step taken towards mental health and seeing that first level of mental health that counselors provide is so critical.
We can have a rational discussion on what happens if additional steps need to be taken by someone going to a psychotherapist or psychologist. But there NEEDS to be a path forward that is not punitive and has real career options for those who need a medical.
There has to be a way to take a break (if/as needed), get the help, and come back with out undue career damage.
The unveiling of the “Arrival of the Pan Am China Clipper in the Philippines” historical marker earlier today at the Manila Yacht Club makes this the first time we officially have an aviation-related historical marker from the National Historical Commission of the Philippines! (Surprisingly, Philippine Airlines still doesn’t have its own historical marker yet.)
