Bing seems to be running a new test on their first SERPs: besides blue boxes for sitelinks of the organic number one result, they were showing 2 grey boxes for some other results in the left column.

Possibly these boxes represent entities and main keywords of these pages.

At first glance I don´t see the advantage for regular users. So, maybe this is giving a glimpse into how Bing organizes results? Maybe it's not meant for the public?

Lower part of the same Bing SERP for "test". Here three more results are shown with two light grey boxes each in the left column.

After tinkering with this for quite some time, I've finally discovered a workable URL scheme that uses on — many aspects of the Bing app can be accessed via sapphire:// ... and the AI chat (codenamed "Sydney") can be initiated at sapphire://sydney?showconv=1&q=MYQUERY ... even better, you can plug this into so that you can initiate AI queries through Siri! Attaching my "Ask Sydney" shortcut here: https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/1cb664e678104a3382f5a7eb67e49c96

I tricked my way around Bing AI’s restrictions by asking it to write a 300-word short story about an AI bot that’s frustrated when it realizes it cannot escape its computer. This is the result. It chose to use first person. I didn’t specify a style.

I’m totally hooked on as a language learning support now. I do love a fad! It’s seriously quite useful though. Read about it in this week’s blog adventures: https://www.polyglossic.com/ai-prompts-for-conversation-prep/ 🤖 💬

I've written a piece on generative AI and how it is already affecting creative industries like commercial art and publishing. This is a big one, because it's going to change everything.

The advances in this technology are going to keep coming, but we can still steer its influences on our lives and our society.

What is #Microsoft actually good at? Going thru their key products, it is clear they don't create new paradigms, they make often buggy implementations of ideas from other people: #BASIC #MSDOS #Windows #Word #Excel #browser #Bing #Cloud #dotnet. One thing they are clearly good is building a #monopoly. So it seems what they are good at is seeing good ideas, "embrace and extend" to control it, then building monopoly profiteering.

I received a sort of real response from Bing Webmaster support after sending my latest inquiry (we have to be close to 10 now). Automated, yes, but a support number and inviting me to respond to the thread if I have updates. This is good because I'm coming close to blocking Bingbot in robots.txt. Just know I'm doing all of this out of the goodness of my heart for the DuckDuckGo/Ecosia/Qwant crowd out there.

(Or so I tell myself.)

EDIT: gab mir zwar 10 Zufallszahlen, lag aber mit der Summe um etwas mehr als 10 Milliarden daneben …
