"A drake mallard has set a speed record of 103 mph while migrating across southern Minnesota and southeast North Dakota [in the U.S.] on April 6, breaking the Cohen Wildlife Ecology Lab’s previous record of 99.3 mph set on the same day."
Outdoor Life reports: "The two GPS-tracked mallard caught the same weather front that helped them reach top speeds on their return flights to Canada."
[Identification request] [Bird identification👇] Just a quick request for Fediverse bird fans, I photographed this bird earlier (sorry about the quality of the enlargements). I wonder if it could be a rough-legged buzzard (especially with the white tail and black bar).
For information, I'm in France and more precisely in the north of Indre (several individuals observed further south).
Talking to Marie in the kitchen and we hear a strange rustling on our back patio. She opens the curtain, and is greeted by a young owl full wing spread knocking over stuff we had stacked back there. I got a couple shots through the dirty sliding door and screen. DAMN nature. You freaky!
I tried cleaning up the Owl profile pic with a little editing. Considering this was shot at dusk, through a dirty sliding door, and a filthy screen, I'm really impressed with what the OnePlus 12 telephoto camera was able to do! https://www.flickr.com/photos/jickbahtech/53732259950/in/dateposted/
The cherry blossoms have passed and the lilacs are now in bloom! Beautiful sunny run today. So many birds around. This week running, I have seen four great egrets, a green heron, baby goslings with their Canadian parents, Mallard ducklings with mom, cormorants, and so many red winged blackbirds! I am enjoying the last few runs of my taper! Almost go time!
