It poured colour from the sky last night.
Last one, I almost promise. There are so many beautiful photos posted today, my timeline is filled with colour.

The Aurora Borealis overhead is mind-boggling even though there is a thin layer of clouds. Photos taken towards the south, from my backyard.
JPG out of camera.

A nice clump of Reindeer Lichen.
They grow very slowly, only about 3-5 mm a year.

So, this was released today. My third stamp with Canada Post. Qarlinngua (The pants). And technically my second stamp with a family member in it, as the tiny figure in it is my son Travis. Now for one with Hilary in it.

I’ve very proud of all of these, beyond the cache. They are about my home, and family. And also my family has a long history with the Post Office, 101 years. My grandfather, father, and brother were all postmasters in Roblin.

I didn't catch the plunge .... but the Caspian Tern caught their dinner, I think a catfish. Nice to see the local pair back from their long winter vacation.

In an ATV trip to Innaaluup Nuvua last summer we stopped at the top of this magnificent valley above Innaarulaalikuluk and Admiralty Inlet.

Why is filing taxes always so stressful? Even if you don't even do it yourself?

"Lurch Laich" 😊 .

Egg mass of an amphibian in a shallow vernal pool. A gel surrounds the eggs so I guess it's from a Spotted Salamander.

They hatched! 😊
Though my visit to the Raven nest was cut short because a hiker informed me about a mother bear with 3 cubs just ahead - I did hear squawky little raven voices! Both parents were away looking for food, but this one came to check me out.

I'm haunted by a big jar of imported Bulgarian peaches I saw at the grocery store today.

1.7 litres of peeled halved peaches, for just under six bucks, that clearly, desperately want to be pie, and I abandoned them. What kind of monster am I?

canyakker,
@canyakker@mas.to avatar

@ottaross
I saw those jars here too, there were just 2 left. I question my sanity 🤦 because I didn't buy at least one. The sheer weight of them put me off.

eheu! Silvius in latrinam lapsus est! Minimus et Minima pedes filioli vellunt et tandem extrahunt (Oh dear! Silvius has fallen in the loo! Minimus and Minima pull their little son's feet and finally extract him). Silvius risum effundit (Silvius bursts out laughing).

@Minimus I guess he needs a good scrubbing now 😂 .
I once rescued a mouse from an outhouse with the help of a stick. Gave that poor thing a good rinsing and watched over it for an hour until it had recovered, poor little thing.

Found this pretty Northern Ground-Cedar yesterday. It's a Club Moss and neither a cedar nor a moss.
They are some of the oldest plants on Earth, once tree-sized, a few hundred million years ago.

Sandhill Crane looking less than regal. A pair of them was stalking in the wetlands.
Wood Frogs and Spring Peepers were calling, and turtles were basking. A warm, humid spring day.

I noticed quite a few trees that had been debarked higher up in their crowns.
That's the work of a Porcupine aka Stachelschwein.
Beavers eat bark from the ground up, Porcupines start from a safer height further up.

So Spring has sprung, tentatively. New bird arrivals this morning: Eastern Phoebe, Song Sparrows, and Tree Swallows .
The Tree Swallows are doing the home inspections and considering their choices. The competition is fierce.

A stray cat gave me a dead mouse as a present. :ablobcatheartsqueeze:

Has anyone ever investigated how cats choose such gift places and where this comes from? (Sharing the prey?) I would like to learn to understand cats in their behaviour. Do I have to give a mouse back? 😸

canyakker,
@canyakker@mas.to avatar

@NatureMC
Years ago I had a cat who often brought live mice into the house/bedroom in the middle of the night, only to sit down, wash her face, and watch me catching the mouse and bringing it outside. I got very good at catching mice. Always thought that was the intention of the cat 😂 .

Also lots of new Robins pulling worms out of the garden soil.

A Blue Jay listening to the other Blue Jays. This one sang the most beautiful song, whispering and gurgling. Always a surprise to find out it's coming from a Blue Jay.

When this male Raven is sitting in this tree, looking bored, I just know that the female is in the nest, nearby, incubating.
A month earlier than in previous years. It's very cold for another week at least.

The Redpolls show more reds now! A bitter cold wind is blowing from the North, and a few small birds have found their way into the garden. With wind-ruffled feathers and fluffed up, they fill up at the feeder.
