@bookstodon Hi all. Can anyone recommend a good informational book about bipolar disorder, especially if geared toward family and friends of bipolar folks? Thanks.
It's nice and warm out, and the 2 new baby goats are really healthy, so they got to go out and meet their herdmates. (Their herdmates were EXTREMELY interested in meeting them, hilariously, especially the llama)
"Those who have never seen Superior get an inadequate, even inaccurate idea, by hearing it spoken of as a 'lake,' and to those who have sailed over its vast extent the word sounds positively ludicrous. Though its waters are fresh and crystal, Superior is a sea. It breeds storms, and rain and fogs, like the sea. It is cold in mid-summer as the Atlantic. It is wild, masterful, and dreaded as the Black Sea." - Rev. George Grant, Ocean to Ocean, 1872
@Catlynn Hi! My mom told me yesterday that she saw a squirrel in the yard with a bald tail...have you ever seen anything like that or know why it might happen?
@stefan@alttexthalloffame Is there a way to translate alt text? e.g., sometimes people boost pictures from accounts in French, which I can't read well.
@stefan Ah, ok. I use Mona on iPhone and Semaphore on Desktop, but might play around on the main web interface sometime to see if my instance has this. Thanks.
It's dull and grey this morning, so am sitting in front of the full spectrum light.
Still doing lots of digesting and wordless processing in my world.
Pull up a sunbeam (artificial or OG) and join me for some quiet soul restoration. #sitTogether

@Catlynn That makes me wonder: do your critter friends all live within your yard, or do they sneak in under fences and such? I love how the regulars have names.
Fellow #blueChristmas trunkies give a wave if your going to be alone (or feel alone in a room full of people). Let's strategize how we're gonna get through together.
I mostly gonna be quiet/contemplative - so much happened this year I need to process, but I am also going to need some utter bloody silliness, and maybe a movie bender or something xmas day.
Will drop some tags to muster on and other ideas below. Share yours too!

Hey there, #blind Fedi user hive mind. I'm wondering if any #choral singers might know of where one could find #Braille music, specifically octavo scores (not major works) besides the Library of Congress NLS Music Division. Is the RNIB or other international catalogs available outside of their respective countries? I've been part of a local choir for a year, but feel very discouraged that they mostly do octavos and not major works because Braille music is hard to find. Thank you for any help!
Ack, @knitting . For years I've been doing slip-stitch selvedge on my knitting, under the impression that it would make picking up stitches easier. I just now read Nancy Wiseman's advice (in her book) regarding both selvedge and picking up stitches, and find that I was completely wrong! and that slip-stitch selvedge actually would make holes.
@knitting In the meantime, I will soon have some sleeve cuffs to pick up stitches on. I could frog it, but it seems a silly reason now that the sleeves are done.*
*The jacket I'm making is the Barcelona Bolero from Lionbrand, which is worked essentially in one piece with a broken rib pattern running vertically on the front and back but horizontally on the sleeves.
They just published the categories for the 2024 Polymath Reading Challenge ๐ฅฐ It's the 10th year so people got to vote in past favorites.
The list is:
@TarkabarkaHolgy Where is this reading challenge? I always like aspirationally signing up for such things, only to find by the end of the year that Iโve only completed 15% of it. ๐
