I own a bunch of modern albums on cassette through the Spirit Goth cassette club, but I really need to open up the wallet and try to invest in some historic dream pop and shoegaze releases too, it is really the perfect medium to listen to codeine haze genres.

Cocteau Twins - Iceblink Luck

WIKI

"Iceblink Luck" is a song by the Scottish band Cocteau Twins, released in 1990 as the lead single from their sixth studio album, "Heaven or Las Vegas." The track showcases the band's ethereal sound, blending Elizabeth Fraser's distinctive vocals with lush instrumentation.

I finally got speakers for my desktop computer, so I can much more easily fuel my depression through hazy 90s dream pop.

I've got a new song out for the first time in nearly two months! mostly because I found myself being a perfectionist with regard to actually finishing it, and I find that's the time when I just need to pop an end on the damn thing and release it 😅

anyways, you might be able to broadly categorize this one as dreampop, though there's influences from all over the map here 😌 artists/albums I had in mind include the dream academy, sigur ros, slowdive's just for a day, and a couple of my usual touchstones: disintegration/wish-era the cure and ulrich schnauss. anyway, hope y'all enjoy! <3

Time for an update on my list, because there has been some activity.

received a boost and is a serious contender for Metal AOTY.

entered very high, but is currently not a contender.

from Manx is worth a listen.

migth get a boost soon, because their songs are stuck in my head since my first spin.

Apart from that some good (3,5*) and solid+ (3*) albums have been added.

What's your album of the year so far?

lautmaler,
@lautmaler@metalhead.club avatar

@derthomas I am very bad at keeping up with new releases, as there's plenty of older music yet for me to discover...

However, from the little albums I do know are new, my current favourite is absolutely opposite to metal.

#GreatAlbums1990s - #CocteauTwins - #HeavenOrLasVegas (1990). The 80s weren't quite over in 1990, but the Twins provided an apt transition as their willowy dreampop inspired the shoegaze bands that formed the 90s' first distinctive movement. Elizabeth Fraser's vocals became easier to parse, and the sugar-high hooks of "Iceblink Luck" and "Wolf in the Breast" made the disc accessible without sacrificing the enigmatic spirit of the Twins' "cherry-coloured funk."
