The traditional burial place of monarchs, Relig Odhráin graveyard near the abbey on the magical island of Iona. It may have been in continual use as a burial place since St Columba's day, nearly 15 centuries ago. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/iona/storanschapel/index.html
Another lidar-derived render of #Iona, this time a 360 degree panorama from the summit of Dun I, the highest point on the island.
Vertical Fisheye equisolid camera pointing down in #blender, then used #gimp 'polar coords' filter to unwrap, rescale and tidy up. Each pixel column is a line of bearing.
Flyover over the island of #Iona using QGIS and Blender, starting above Sligneach and flying roughly north, ending just past the Abbey/Nunnery.
In compositing, ran normalized depth map through a Kirsch filter at 50%. This gives the fog-like effect (and gradients are low frequency, so it compresses down really well).
#FootpathFriday on #Mull#Scotland
Just back from visiting friends who live at the very bottom of this path. It’s a bit of a hike with supplies and an enthusiastic puppy. But boy is it worth it for the views! (#Iona just visible) #nature#wild#scenery#travel
The ferry slipway and the village of Baile Mor on the enchanting, magical, island of Iona, just off the south-west tip of the Isle of Mull. Pilgrims have been coming here for nearly fourteen centuries and tourists for three. More pics and info: https://www.undiscoveredscotland.co.uk/iona/iona/index.html
#MinCup23 kaolinite vs zircon Two beautifully-named minerals, but one is white crud, while the other sparkles and glows! Here's some zircons (up to 8mm long) from ultramafic Lewisian rocks in Iona, fluorescing golden yellow under 254nm ultraviolet light. 🥰 🤩 #VoteZircon#Geology#Zircon#Iona
Some nice beach boulders from during yesterday's wet and murky fieldwork in Iona with PhD student Kang. Two mylonized somethings (left and right) and a gneiss (centre) sitting on garnet-pyroxene meta-ironstone in the rain 😊 #Geology#Iona#Lewsian#Metamorphic#WhatAreTheseThings
