There were no forbidden subjects. One painting depicts a visibly pregnant bride at her wedding, and another features the town’s two prostitutes, Jaźdka and Świderka."

There is no such thing as the Judeo-Christian tradition. It is a figment of the supersessionist imagination. It is a term meant to co-opt Jews and Jewish history into a #Christian narrative to give legitimacy to that narrative. It is a term that erases #Jews and #Judaism. Everyone should stop using that term.

I’m kind of surprised that this isn’t something you haven’t just heard in passing even in Germany. Like it’s so common of a statement that you can find it in sci-fi non-religious programs like Stargate SG-1. Teal’c bugs O’Neil about it at least once or twice being an alien living on Earth.
Most of the thought boils down to Christianity having important works and figures from Hebrew history and culture in their Bible. It is composed of works translated for the Greeks from Torah, Tanakh, their own Testament, Epistles, and a variety of apocryphal works depending on who is reading it.

#JudeoChristian is a term that attempts to allege a harmonious history of European Christians and Jews. This has no basis. Europe has a long antisemitic history, obviously.
Jews have a longer history of living in harmony with Muslims than they do European Christians. The idea of a “Judeo-Christian” culture is ridiculous.
@msquebanh I highly suspect it's less guilt and more about electoral politics and the power of the Israel lobby, and being beholden to the US (Canada has even less independence than Australia does but our war machines were built together and financial warmongers and exploitative industries in all our nations).
@msquebanh This is extremely important context. I keep asking myself why certain western nations are so enamoured with Israel, and sheer guilt is a huge factor. I think there are three others, too. There's money. Selling weapons isn't charity work. Weapons manufacturers are making profits. There's also colonialism. When Canada looks at what Israel is doing and hears accusations of settler colonialism and genocide, I think a lot of guts tighten in anger because that's what we do, as a country.

It is ahistorical nonsense to suggest that Israel is somehow the result of a "colonial project"of the US & the UK. It makes for a great story but it's not at all supported by facts. For starters, The UK didn't need Israel to have a presence in the Middle East, it had bases & troops in other "protectorates" all over the region (Jordan, Iraq, Kuwait, etc). People will point to the Balfour declaration as proof & then conveniently forget everything that happened for the next... 1/4
