'An official study of low-traffic neighbourhoods (LTNs) ordered by Rishi Sunak amid efforts to stop them being built has instead concluded they are generally popular and effective and the report was initially buried, the Guardian has learned.'
In our Lewisham Mayoral by-election the top three all supported #ULEZ & #LTN. The bottom four didn't. The votes cast for the three was around 80% of the whole.
Yet my area suffered the worst of the ULEZ camera attacks on the grounds of protecting the people from dictating bureaucrats. It's just a cynical media attack to galvanise deluded vandals and try and hoodwink the public. The latter hasn't worked here.
Today our lovely community went out to make the most of our calm streets and the #LowTrafficNeighbourhood. Walking, riding, scooting. Kids, grownups, dogs, an amount of dressing up. With Ice Cream at the end! Beautiful!
The #LTN is currently under threat of removal thanks to our local councillors - and it was so nice to do something positive to show what a difference it all makes.
[jmk] - Auf der Hack&Make 2023 kam der Wunsch auf, nach dem Einschalten des ReelBoards als erste Ebene unseren Tux angezeigt zu bekommen. Dann erst beim man.
This is not to take away at all from the dire situation the evacuated residents on Lindsay Road are experiencing right now.
Every traffic engineer in the city of Edinburgh should be watching what happens very carefully the events happeing around Newhaven for the next few weeks (or months?) while the roads are closed to fix the building.
An ideal situation to reduce traffic from one of the most scenic roads in the city permenantly?
The Leith Links Community Council has a survey out for the Leith Connections LTN & N8 Parking Zones and is seeking feedback.
Would be great to spread this around to others, especially within the local #ActiveTravel community. Filling the survey with support would be a great way to start off 2024! Thanks!
Am 03.09.2023 waren wir auf unserer 1. Tux-Wanderung.
Over on the local FB group there is much joyous reaction to our new #LTN going on, of which the most prevalent seems to be “hOW dO I gEt To tHE pOsToFfiCe”
The evidence that cars don’t work as primary mass transport in cities is everywhere: traffic jams, air pollution, accident rates, the shocking fraction of city space taken up by parking spaces, safety barriers/bollards etc. This 100 year experiment should be declared over, and we should put proper effort into the systems that HAVE been shown to work and scale: walking, cycling, e-cargo bikes, cheap/accessible/reliable public transport. This “argument” about LTNs is just lazy delay. #LTN#cities
I feel like I’m on some Facebook groups strictly to troll the anti-15-minute-city crowd and others who view LTNs and Trams as direct attacks on their entire family history for the last 700 years.
I mean, you have to be able to stomach key phrases like “WEF” and “Clowncil” … but it’s a small price to pay sometimes.
'Only five per cent of the responses to a petition calling for a review into the Low Traffic Neighbourhood scheme (LTNs) were from Oxford residents, data shows.'
