Realising that they have had a few mis-steps with the election campaign so far, the new advisor is set to steer the Conservatives to election victory. The new advisor is reputed to be as cunning as a fox who’s just been appointed Professor of Cunning at Oxford.
U.K. Prime Minister Rishi Sunak calls for a July 4 general election, as polls show Conservative Party in trouble.
NBC News reports: "Most polls suggest that if the vote were held tomorrow, the opposition Labour Party could enjoy a landslide win that would make Sir Keir Starmer the country's leader."
It was an inauspicious start to the U.K. Conservative Party's election campaign as Prime Minister Rishi Sunak announced that Britain will head to the polls on July 4. Heavy rain fell as he spoke, and D:Ream's "Things Can Only Get Better," best remembered as the Labour Party's theme song for its 1997 election victory, blared from a member of the public's speakers at the gates of Downing Street. Deadline has this writeup on what it calls the "farcical scenes."
When Rishi Sunak's strategy for trying to retain votes is explicitly to confirm its 'better the devil you know', you can but wonder who advised him that self-identifying as a devil was good optics.
(Yes, I know it a common enough saying but....)
I'm sure at the very least the political cartoonists will have a field day with this...
so I think we can now truthfully state:
Rishi Sunak = the Devil
Can't wait to see the Tory election leaflets with that as their strap line!
It seems like it's taken me a very long time to think of this, and maybe no one in the UK has ever heard of the former Louisiana governor whose run for the US presidency in 2015 lasted 3.2 Liz Trusses but still ended before a single primary vote was cast, but.... Has anyone ever called #RishiSunak "Dobby Jindal"?
#RishiSunak apparently unfamiliar with the saying "To get out of a hole, first, stop digging"
After 15 years in power and another round of local section losses, more "work to do" is the LAST thing needed. #Tories should stop and call a #GeneralElectionNow
