I got my Kickstarter PDF copies of Tales of the Valiant from @KoboldPress. I am hoping this will replace #DnD5e for me. I cannot wait to ready the final version.
It features a broken pillar at the center and is set at a dusk/dawn time frame. In my campaign the party followed some suspicious folks and got ambushed by gooey little demons as they were discovered. Luckily, they made it out alive.
My main concept is to turn the equipment that your players already have into magic items over time, to lessen the clutter and create a stronger relation between player character and magic item.
I did a full mechanical deep-dive into the Tales of the Valiant Alpha, and discussed what changed, what's better, and what has room for further improvement.
@virtualbri This is one of the things I like about #TalesOfTheValiant. It's #KoboldPress' reaction to #DnD's #OGL fiasco. Their new system is 5E-compatible, but they've introduced a "luck" mechanic. When you miss a roll, you get one luck point. You can have up to five before you're penalized for accumulating more. Spend points one-for-one to improve dice rolls, or spend three at once to reroll one d20 entirely. But if you go over five, you lose your pool and roll 1d4 to refill it.
I have created a #dnd#dnd5e compatible #crafting system that does not rely on rolltables, is flexible, halfway simple and allows for the greatest amount of creativity from both the dungeon master as well as the player.
Please respond by saying what sorts of TTRPG things you're pretty likely to either talk about or respond to if you see them.
This can be a list of games (D&D! Tribe 8! Fate!) or categories (the weirdest of indie stuff! NSR! Anything PBtA!), topics (Worldbuilding! Publishing!), stuff you're making, meta-commentary (The State Of The Industry), and so on.
Then maybe share, and if the replies are building up, check them for new people.
Im mostly ignorant of #KobaldPress though. So I'd like to hear if theyre secretly libertarians, or homophobes or nazis or something sooner rather than later.
Im guessing theyre not, people seem to have a lot of good will for them.
I'm the kind of GM who can run a game for a long time just out of the core rulebooks. So sometimes im not totally clued into these supplement publishers till they pull a Paizo. #ttrpg#TalesOfTheValiant#lgbtq
Thinking ill back "Tales of the Valiant" at the PDF level. Im not even sure I actually even want to run it. But...
Im curious as heck on what their gonna do with it.
At some point, I feel like ill feel pressure me for a modern not-old school essentials D&D-like. And this cant hurt to have in the back pocket for that day.
Playable were-creatures look to be a core race, judging by the preview PDF, which is a good way to endear me.
