The UK Gov petition for "Require videogame publishers to keep games they have sold in a working state" has had a response as it's passed 10k signatures.

The response is long and for once detailed, with some interesting points

Yep, thought so.
They've already tried this nonsense.
Of course UKGOV would use LLMs to lie to the public, have you not been paying attention?

@Lazarou In the 60s, lying to parliament was a "resign, bring down the government with you, and devote the rest of your life to working in a homeless shelter" job. Then by the 90s/00s it was a "eventually, grudgingly resign: time out on the backbenches then get your next cabinet post after the next general election". And now they're fucking automating the process.

The UK Ministry of Defence has by far the worst protected IT systems of any Whitehall department, with 11 "red-rated" systems.

So the scrapping of the scheme is probably the most baffling of all of the roll-backs that Sunak announced yesterday - at least when seen from Scandinavia - British houses are legendary for their leakiness.

And hasn't the heard of Russia?

jaztrophysicist,
@jaztrophysicist@astrodon.social avatar

@Ruth_Mottram maybe the thinking is that UK house insulation (or rather, lack thereof) is a national symbol that must be preserved at all costs just like the monarchy, or red buses.

rikefranke,
@rikefranke@bagarrosphere.fr avatar

@jaztrophysicist @Ruth_Mottram The why is “conservation rules” and the how is that you need to get authorisations for any structural changes in conservation areas. But again, we are talking about inside the wall insulation, which keeps the house exactly the same/makes it better. You can’t make this up.
(Of course, some people them just do it and don’t tell anyone, which in this case, I applaud)

US spy-tech firm Palantir was a shoo-in for a multi-million-pound NHS contract months before the deal was signed, emails obtained by openDemocracy appear to show.

The email exchange from 2020, in which senior executives discussed the budget for a new national data platform, sees more than one person referring to as the recipient of the funding.

This petition is still active but slowing down. Enough people have signed it to trigger a response from the UK government, next one to aim for is 100,000 for a debate.
