#MeetTheArtist Day5. Wax & Clay - soft modelling. Wax was the first medium I used professionally, modelling medical prosthetics. I now more often use a soft filled wax, that softens in the hand but is quite firm at room temp. This little #wren, part of a 6” sq. low relief was modelled in 2020. Due to its impermanence any wax model has to be then moulded (in this case in silicon rubber) & then cast into the final permanent medium (in this case a resin bronze). #modelling#moulding & #casting
Bewick's wren today on a walk along the California coast. Kids scared him away (unintentionally) before I could get a good profile shot with that jaunty tail. I love these little guys. #Birding#wren#California#NaturePhotography#Birds
Today's most adorable visitor is this little Superb Fairy Wren.
These tiny birds travel in groups of 5 to 20ish hopping about & hunting for insects. When we cut fallen trees for firewood we leave all the spindly bits in piles, which the wrens love as a sheltered place full of insects. Wouldn't want to be eaten by yesterday's goshawk!
Here's tonight's free bird wallpaper. It's a Eurasian Wren, more commonly known as just a straight-up Wren. It's common to most of Europe and Southeast Asia.
I don't do AI images, and I like to provide proof I actually drew and painted it (albeit digitally) using Procreate. The app records each stroke I make while painting it. For this image, I made 4410 strokes of my Apple pencil, and it took 1hr 48 minutes to complete. Here's the speedpaint: https://makertube.net/w/3SR1A2un5U66KpkFjaGDPr
I just love how this very tiny bird's tail just sticks straight up!! It's so cute!!
