Here's my wee latest video, and it's the second in a series about The Galloway Hydro Scheme.
We're moving on downstream from Loch Doon to Kendoon, Carsfad and Earlstoun stations and their lochs.
During the tough times of the early 1930s, there was no shortage of men prepared to risk the hard and hazardous conditions to work on the building of the Hydro Scheme.
The problem for them was keeping their jobs...

It will cover the building of Clatteringshaws dam and the Glenlee Tunnel, which was the most expensive and dangerous part of the entire construction.

Green Party representation in Holyrood relies heavily on list votes from, predominantly, SNP supporters who won't look kindly on them for, as they see it, sabotaging the BHA. This means there's little likelihood of a pro-independence majority at the next election.

Vast majority of constituencies don't have Greens standing in them. I would, and have, give both my votes to the Greens, but give my constituency vote to SNP because Indy.

Long ago, I was a member of the SNP, but the NATO policy introduced by Angus Robertson made me leave. I don't like hawks. I still voted for them, but if they trash their green/progressive credentials, I will find it difficult!

Clatteringshaws Dam is the largest dam on the Galloway Hydro Scheme. It feeds Glenlee Power Station via the Glenlee Tunnel, which was cut through the hard rock of the Galloway landscape in the most dangerous, and expensive, construction of the entire scheme.

The Buchanites Part One: The Woman Clothed in Sun
The Buchanites were a Christian Sect led by the charismatic Elspeth Buchan in the late 18th and early 19th Century Scotland.

The Buchanites settled at Buchan Hall on the land of New Cample Farm and had lived here for almost 3 and a half years waiting for Armageddon to come. When a strange voice was heard speaking from the clouds one midnight, Elspeth concluded that her followers needed to purify themselves and instituted a 40 day fast.

After Elspeth's passing and Hugh White's desertion, Andrew Innes became the defacto leader of the Buchanites that remained at Crocketford. For 50 long years, he lived with the secret of what had happened to Elspeth's body, while patiently waiting for her return.

Well, I have just written an extremely snotty email to the parliament's petitions team regarding their decision back in December to reject my petition calling for to be referred to the , and asking them to advise me how we can ensure that they don't make such mistakes in future.

This doesn’t look like a clever way to avoid a debate now:

'Sorry, we can’t accept the petition you supported – “Invoke the Genocide Convention with regard to Israel's attack on Gaza”.

It included confidential, libellous, false, unproven or defamatory information, or a reference to a case where there are active legal proceedings.'

From the email they sent out rejecting the petition to anyone asking for updates.

Advent Day Five

The Solway Coast of Galloway is long, rugged and treacherous. Many ships have met their end between it and Northern Ireland , but the greatest tragedy, the largest loss of life in peacetime UK waters, happened to The Princess Victoria. During the Great Storm of 1953, she left Stranraer for the last time.
