@actuallyautistic This morning I was called a yokel, a word I have not heard outside of old television in my lifetime until now—among other labels. When I asked them to clarify how they used yokel, the coworker identified many visible traits they had been noting since we met yesterday, paired with appearing young. I had the opportunity to correct them and let my skillset speak for me throughout the day. @audhd

Is traveling or moving an adventure or disruption of routine? A little bit of both? My routines are often deeply rooted in my familiar spaces.

@audhd I got a surprise today! There are real people out there who have signed up for my Low-Spoonz Newsletter off of www.BZBrainz.com after my April release. I have not yet sent out a newsletter, but I will within Quarter 3. It's titled the "Low-Spoonz Newsletter" for a good reason! You won't hear from me often, only if I have something to share and as I have spoons to share them.

What are you reading right now?

I am looking at starting a series by Yasmin Galenorn, midway through Wired for Story by Lisa Cron, and reading a study guide for case management. I’m a mood reader.

Did you know that if you live in the US, you can ask your to order ? Budget constraints exist, but if we don't ask for our bookstores and public libraries to carry books written by for autistics, many voices are missing from the digital & physical spaces. Please consider how your requests help diversify what is available publically and keep expanding your requests to include more voices.

Sometimes I bookmark social media posts that I want to respond to but need additional time to consider because my understanding is still unfolding. I may look through the dictionary or urban dictionary, try to find further social context, ask myself if I am being too literal, and then I'm lost in thought or have fallen into a rabbit hole. I do this offline too. Sometimes that means I may never enter the conversation.

Author/Writing Retreat Day 1- We took a long break from writing to see the ocean. I’m utterly fascinated and soothed by water. It’s easy for me to spend hours lost in my head by the shore where I live, but we have a well protected bay at home not the open ocean. Here it’s long stretches of the Pacific. I watched the white caps until it was time to leave and even now at the B&B I can hear the ocean waves.

Late-Identified : A Starter Workbook is a workbook written and designed by me—a real person with late identified and . It is not meant to be diagnostic! It is meant for adults who are early in their self-discovery of what it means to be and have ADHD. @Adhdinos

I love my cats. I anthropomorphize them. They provide a quiet, steady companionship and comfort I cannot find in people. They comprise a fundamental part of my home and routine. When something is wrong with my cats, the world is wrong—everything about my day and life is broken without them. Please have compassion for those that grieve for and love their animals. @actuallyautistic

Today I’m in the process of resetting my project management system for quarter 3 (Q3). I’ve had people tell me they’d rather pull their own teeth out than do a project management at home. 🤷🏼 This process for me is very satisfying—color coded—and most of all, it works for me. Do what works for you!

@magicalgrrrl That reminds me of the time I was asked by a therapist in a group setting, “have you tried not being depressed?” This is now a dark inside joke between me and a few of my friends.

My brain picked a motto this week as I applied for a temporary out-of-state job and considered formalizing the first draft of my next workbook. I don’t know where I heard it from, but I’ve been telling myself, “DO BIG BRAVE THINGS.” My rigid need for sameness is always at odds with a restless desire for adventure.

When you’re an independent author, you are your own marketing team! And my marketing team forgot to post my weekly Late-Idenified : A Starter Workbook post.

I asked my marketing team to make a plan for next week. When no satisfactory plan could be found due to a fortune cookie was consulted. “Hope for the best, but prepare for the worst.”

What inspired Late-Identified AuDHD: A Starter Workbook?

My notes from my early in the (autism +ADHD) AuDHD diagnosis process…short essays, drawings, notes, and tables of information I created as I processed what I learned about being from the world around me. I lent those notes out and after feedback… some of it turned into a workbook.

Was deeply engaged in a difficult conversation today when a book caught my attention across the room. “Is that Unmasking Autism? I read that earlier this year.” It was an optional opening for optional disclosure. It changed the questions he felt comfortable asking, changed how I provided education, and it ended be a deeply satisfying and helpful exchange. Today was a real win. @bookstodon

I had an interesting conversation with a good friend about states that require diagnosis of to be registered with the state and the future implications this could have paired with laws that restrict access to care for people. I’m only familiar with a couple of states that require registration and that’s New Jersey and North Dakota.

TW: homophobia

I wanted to share a couple of the violent and homophobic responses I received after talking about my spouse of 20 years. We are an Out, Queer, Neurodivergent couple—this will not be the first or the last time I receive comments like this. This sort of behavior is not acceptable and the community should be aware of these screen names.

Happy Pride Month! 🏳️‍🌈🏳️‍⚧️ I’m 37 years old and this year will be my 20th anniversary with my spouse. We are an odd couple, both diagnosed a collage of overlapping special interests, a drive to keep learning to communicate, competing sensory needs, and a deep love for each other. I will always believe it’s our direct communication, love of learning, and love of play that is the glue in our relationship. @actuallyautistic @lgbtqia
