CEO's are surrounded by yes-men who agree to every whim they have.

I promise that they yes-men will cherry-pick something else that "improved" during the return-to-office order and use that as justification. There are bonus points if it's not measurable. (The most recent reason that I heard was "imagination".)

The return-to-office order is because middle managers can't strut around and Look Important unless they have their serfs around to lord over.

In software, every programmer can tell you what specifically improves productivity: an office where you can close the door. And every programmer can tell you what ruins productivity: interruptions. Yet, businesses moved to "open offices" not because of programmers, but to make middle management Feel Important.

I appreciated the years of working from home. I expect only the best companies to recognize that it lowers costs and improves morale.

I agree that many social media platforms - whether X, Substack, or others - are basically stacked against progressive ideas, and there is little good that can be done by staying on them - since that would would only drive further money into the pocket of Nazi supporters.

However, I do worry about outreach. While the is largely friendly to progressive ideas, will it matter in the long run if what passes for "public discourse" happens elsewhere? How can we bring progressive ideas further into the mainstream, while large political and corporate forces are pushing into the opposite direction?

There are strong, loud forces in this part of the fighting hard to keep it from being mainstream. Read through the Fediblock hashtag, consider the reasons why they are fighting for dissociation, and think about that and the mainstream.

If the Fediverse were to become popular, it would lose a lot of what makes it attractive to the people on it now.

I came out of it liking Dr Carson... but deeply impressed at how oblivious he is to so much around him.

The combination of "medical doctor" and "boring" is a very good one. Everyone wants their medical problems to be boring and easily fixed.

Should he ever have been a politician, though? No. Never.

Today I got my COVID booster and a shingles vaccine. OMG my arm is killing me.

I’ve never had a reaction from the COVID vaccines, but I’ve heard the shingles one could be a doozy.

My taste in music was mostly set when I went through high school. I have shifted it over the years, but I don't expect it to shift much more (unless I push it.)

BUT -- I continue to challenge myself, continue to listen to new music, and continue to expand the bands I listen to.

There is great music in every decade.

It is vital that the American people have the full information on their Presidential candidates before voting.

Trump is likely to be the Republican nominee for President. He also argues that there is no way for all of these court cases to be resolved before Election Day.

So that the American people have the full details of their Presidential candidates, I propose that the United States Presidential Election be postponed until all court cases, appeals, changes of venue, and appeals to appeals have finished. Only after the gourt cases have been finished can the American people make their well-informed decision.

This decision, of course, is entirely to allow Trump to handle all of his many court cases. You're welcome, Republicans.

    Something I’ve noticed about the way I use social media is that when someboy posts a link to a video, I normally just move along and ignore the post. I do the same with news sites; when it’s a video story, I just ignore it and look for a text article. I feel like I have less and less patience for video content. Like the newness of “ooh, video on THE INTERNET!” wore off more than a decade ago.

    So many people seem to feel the same, but yet video is EVERWHERE. It’s perplexing.
