As a trans woman who grew up in the Midwest, everything I know about football has been communicated to me entirely against my will. Here is my explanation of this sport as I know and understand it.

  • Football is a sport played by both boys and grown men with brain damage all across America.

  • Football is played with a ball that isn't really a ball, it's more shaped like a big oestrogen pill.

  • You're usually not allowed to use your feet, unless you're a special boy called a "kicker" and then you can only use your feet.

  • Sometimes people will call this ball a "pigskin" for reasons unclear to either of us.

  • The field has lines on it and the lines measure how many "yards" you are from the edge of the field.

  • On either end, the lines are colored in, and that signifies the "end zone" and that's where you're trying to get the oestrogen pillball to go.

  • If you get your oestrogen pillball into the colored-in zone you're allowed to do a little dance and maybe someone will hug you or pat you on the butt encouragingly.

  • But the gag is, while you're trying to get the oestrogen pillball into the colored-in zone, the other men will assault you.

  • If they assault you too violently, there's this other man in a stripey shirt who gets mad at you and will give the oestrogen pillball to the other men for a while.

  • There are attractive women on the sidelines who are paid to be very excited about where the oestrogen pillball is at all times. The audience likes these women.

  • Sometimes there will be another attractive woman voluntarily watching her boyfriend from the sideline who also gets very excited about where the oestrogen pillball is. The audience hates this woman.

  • In the middle of the game, everybody stops playing with their oestrogen pillball for a while to watch a music show by a gay icon.

  • The biggest game of the year is called the Superbowl, and this year it's being played by the Kansas City Chiefs and another team.

Chip_Unicorn,
@Chip_Unicorn@im-in.space avatar

@Lana
Here's a few more.

  • Getting the oestrogen pillball into the colored-in zone is worth 6 points. Unless it's worth 3 points. Or one point. Or two points for the other team.
  • Tight ends have them.
  • The most important player in this game is Taylor Swift.

Let me tell you what my life has been like for nearly a decade: I have been constantly tired.

Every waking moment, I have wanted to lie down. Just standing up and moving around has been torture. The only reason I did anything is because I have job and parenting responsibilities, and I had to will myself to do all those things.

At first, I thought this was because of laziness or depression, but I’ve never been a lazy person and I’m generally a positive person.

Then last year, my doctor told me that I have a host of medical issues, including high blood pressure. So I became fanatical about diet and exercise. I’m now in the gym every day, and I’m running every day and lifting huge weights.

This helped. Largely, it gave me just a little bit of mojo to fight through each day. My back stopped aching, it took less effort to do things, and did many astonishing things that I previously thought were beyond my capabilities.

Still, when I wasn’t in the gym or doing essential things for survival, I was constantly lying down, trying for rest that just never came.

Finally, last month, I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea. I rarely go into REM or deep sleep. Even though I sleep, my body hasn’t been regenerating itself – and I’ve been struggling with breathing.

I’m now treating that sleep apnea. Last night, I tried out a CPAP machine. For the first time in a long, long time, I actually feel well rested.

In the earliest episodes of the "Mission Impossible" television series, there was noticeable personal "chitchat" among the main characters. This vanished in later scripts, when it was decided that the Mission Impossible Force would be all business, all the time.

I really liked the earliest episodes of Mission: Impossible, when things they didn't plan for took longer than a commercial break to resolve, and the characters needed to improvise.

According to Trump, his net worth is about $8,000 to $9,000 million. Source: https://www.staradvertiser.com/2022/02/15/breaking-news/court-fight-looms-as-questions-swirl-over-trumps-finances/

The E. Jean Carroll trial only cost him $83.3 million.

So that's about one percent of his claimed net worth. According to his claimed net worth, this judgement might sting a little bit.

Yes, I know that he lied about his net worth. He's constantly lying about his net worth. If he's getting the benefits of his lies, he should also have to suffer from his lies.

This livestream are gorillas in the forest: https://www.youtube.com/live/yfSyjwY6zSQ?si=-CtC2TZM5-OWRlA_

I'm sharing it to help a little project by @badlogic.

You see, in Austria, an extreme right-wing organization received €1,000,000 in state funding. @badlogic is comparing the actual number of YouTube viewers of that right-wing organization against the actual number of YouTube viewers of a gorilla livestream.

Here are the current stats (Auf Deutsch): https://exxpress.marioslab.io/

Watch it because gorillas are nifty. And to show there's a bigger market for live gorilla cams than a right-wing organization.

We have an extreme right wing media outlet in Austria called Exxpress. They have a website and a "TV channel" that (used to) broadcasts on a local cable network, as well as on YouTube.

They recite Russian propaganda verbatim sprinkled with the same old extreme right wing narratives.

They also got €1,000,000 in state funding.

I decided to have some fun and did a thing.

You see, they embed the YT Livestream on their website. It autoplays, withiut consent. The views there are counted by YT.

@preslavrachev@mastodon.social avatar

Probably, an unpopular opinion, but hear me out: Java needs developer tools that are lightweight and built with native performance in mind. The existing ecosystem is solid, but slow and inefficient.

We can start with a simple formatter built in Rust, which takes nanoseconds to format your codebase, and does it relentlessly, without relying on you giving it any configuration options at all. Think, gofmt, rustfmt, Ruff’s Black-compatible formatter, etc.

Is this … ?

Chip_Unicorn,
@Chip_Unicorn@im-in.space avatar

@preslavrachev If Java isn't the best the language to write Java tools in, then why should we use Java at all?

If you follow me, you know I take seriously. People tell me they cannot vote for Biden because of his COVID policies. Although I agree with the sentiment, I vehemently disagree with the decision. Even if you set aside Trump's evident desire to be above the law and ignore the Constitution (and you shouldn't), if you want vaccine research, Long COVID action and safe air laws in the future, help Democrats win. The anti-vax, COVID-denying, anti-science GOP would only cause more death. (1/2)

Chip_Unicorn,
@Chip_Unicorn@im-in.space avatar

@augieray I'm curious: Why do you say that Biden will be better on vaccine research?

The majority of the vaccine research against COVID and the "who cares about how -- full steam ahead" philosophy of creating mRNA vaccines happened under Trump. (No matter how much the Republicans hate, hate, hate the vaccines.)

(NOTE: I believe that Trump would be a tyrant if he is elected again, and that he would remove every single guardrail that he can is an effort to become dictator. But I also recognize the few good things that came from that philosophy.)

It used to be if racists wanted to blame something on black people they'd need at least... you know a particular black person, a scapegoat, or whatever. Like "This is Janet the black lady who put the plane door on backwards." Or whatever... And then they'd go off.

But now it's just ... the possibility of black people that has them in a tizzy.

Theoretical abstract black people who literally aren't even there.

wtf.

Nothing that Black people do will ever make them "good enough" in the eyes of racists. Structural racism is not the problem of Black people.

It is entirely a white problem. And until whites recognize that, it will remain.
