Hydrogen fuel cell vehicles are a LNG pipe dream.

Former BC Premier Christy Clark fell for it approximately a decade ago with her failed initiative which has resulted in less than a handful of H₂ fuelling stations across the province. Hydrogen is seen as an opportunity for traditional O&G as the most economical means of producing it is by striping it from natural gas which produces, as a byproduct—wait for it—CO₂

Then we got the Rogers/Shaw merger. 🫤

Robot Operator: We apologize for your wait, but we refuse to pay our Operators a fair wage, so never enough people are working here. Instead of accepting the blame, and fixing this, we tell the few people who work for us, they are simply not trying hard enough. Your wait will be 30 minutes to talk to an Operator who is about to cry, because everyone has yelled at them for having to wait so long. REMEMBER YOUR CALL IS VERY IMPORTANT TO US, but not in any demonstrable way.

Crispius,

@RickiTarr looking back, the mass-implementation of outsourced call centres was probably one of the earlier examples of . Wait times got ridiculous, the user experience badly degraded, and the only perceivable benefit was to the company’s bottom line, but it didn’t cost them any business and we all just accepted it as an unavoidable eventuality. 🤷‍♂️

Why is Poilievre campaigning constantly? I have a theory to run by you: Because that gets the ugly truth out of the way early and gives upset people plenty of time to forget.

It gets the media off your back during the home stretch since they already reported the story two years ago - why would they want to repeat old news?

It means they can focus their actual campaign on buying people, with their base already reassured about who they are.

Crispius,

@KimberlyN @zazzoo

“Research has shown that repeating a claim increases that claim’s perceived truth value. However, for a long time, it was assumed that this so-called truth-by-repetition (TBR) effect only applied to claims whose truth value was unambiguous. A new study confirms what politicians and advertisers knew all along: that TBR works on virtually any kind of claim, even highly implausible ones.”

I've been watching on since is started. I like it, including the very slow burn first season.

But, the last to episodes of this season were WILD. I can't recall a TV show making such a sudden migration into such great storytelling late in its second season.

The series is officially underrated at this point. Very much worth a watch.

Crispius,

@Ryan @mike I found the series to be pretty chewy, in the sense that it required my full-attention and if I looked away or zoned out for a second I felt like I missed something. I’ll probably have to go back and re-watch it now that I’ve got a better sense of what’s going on.

The official podcast is actually worth a listen too.

“Of course, the danger of “common sense” is that it is as fragile as it is obviously appealing. Since it hides the nuances and trade-offs of policy choices, it is cursed with the inevitability that it will eventually lead to disappointment, like a fat-free muffin. question for folks using masto.host: the ‘Moon’ tier makes the most sense, but in the notes it mentions ‘limited federation’, which concerns me a little. What does that mean? Does it mean that I might not be able to see posts from some of the folks I currently follow, or folks that follow me might not be able to see my posts?

EDIT: to tag @mastohost

Crispius,

@mastohost thanks, that helps. I’m not too concerned about delays, I’d just hate to think that my reach would be somehow restricted (not that folks really care what I have to say anyhow—lol!) 😀

Crispius,

@mastohost hi again. So my single-user instance has been up for four days, and I’ve now gotten a notification that I’ve exceeded the media storage allowance for the ‘moon’ tier. Is that because of the number of accounts that I follow? (~2k)

Also: when I searched for the hashtag from my masto.host instance I was not able to find this conversation; is that an example of the ‘limited federation’ capability of the ‘moon’ tier?

1/2

Crispius,

@mastohost I’ve already upgraded to the ‘planet’ tier to see how that effects things, I’m just trying to understand the how it all works.

Thanks!

2/2

Crispius,

@mastohost thanks for the prompt reply! I’ll keep an eye on things and see how it goes.

Crispius,

@mastohost gotcha. Last question: what is the purpose of relays?

Crispius,

@mastohost copy. Thanks again for the quick replies.

I’m very impressed with the masto.host service as a whole and think it’s a fantastic way for folks with limited technical knowledge to spin up their own instance.

Couldn’t agree more. Folks who weren’t on Twitter or Facebook before the introduction of algorithmic feeds don’t realize that building one’s feed took effort; you had to choose people to follow and grow your network organically through conversations and hastags. Much like you have to do now with Mastodon.

The payoff is that your feed is 100% your own, and includes only what you ask for. The effort is so worth it.
