While standing in the side door of the boat I just snapped this photo of The Heron taking flight.

I was at the picket line outside WB Discovery on 19th St yesterday and the energy was huge and powerful and positive. Then I came home and ran into my UPS guy on the block and he said WE WON OUR BATTLE YOU WILL WIN YOURS

‘Breakfast bingritto’

Fry a green onion pancake or paratha on both sides. Set it aside. On the same hot pan or tava, add a beaten egg. Take off the stove after 30s, use a spatula to move / fold the egg around. Layer it on the pancake / paratha / bing. Add protein of choice (I have a homemade cured salmon here), though any ham / sausage / vegan alternative would do nicely too. Add furikake, and black / white / cayenne / any pepper. Finish with a touch of soy sauce

@skinnylatte Have you shared your recipe for homemade cured salmon? I'd love to know more about that!

Trying out some clients. I dont think they are as good as the iOS ones, in general. Of course, this could just be my Apple-way bias, but switching between timelines and lists is way clunkier, for example.

Megalodon is the one I like best so far. If you're on Android, what's your favourite app?

EarlOfEdgecombe,
@EarlOfEdgecombe@mstdn.social avatar

@john I tried a bunch of the Android apps at the end of last year and settled on Tusky. I detest the icon, which necessarily has a prominent place on my homescreen. When I began with Tusky the icon was an abstract set of tusks, but then they "updated" it to a cutesy-pie smiling elephant. I use it daily nonetheless.

@john no I don't use lists

Sadly, I'm not even shocked at this point since we seem to have the most boring people running the world.

EarlOfEdgecombe,
@EarlOfEdgecombe@mstdn.social avatar

@BlackAzizAnansi There were 60 episodes of The Wire over five seasons, and in all that time it was nominated for only two Emmys (for writing), of which it won zero.

All of these awards are all about consolidating power and upholding the status quo. They are not about recognizing and uplifting excellence.

Happy Caturday Night!

This is Laika just now listening to "B'gangular," one of the in-progress tracks from the new N to The Power album I am working on. Laika LOVES music! Hoping to have vinyl ready by December.

More about N to The Power here: https://www.ntothepower.com

I've been watching Dear Mama, the new Tupac Shakur documentary series directed by Allen Hughes of The Hughes Brothers. It's completely brilliant. Tupac's story is amazing, but the filmmaking is also so strong. The use of music & reworking of the songs to tell the story is so well done. And the perspective rooted firmly within the community that Tupac belongs to is very powerful. No respectability politics, just truth telling. Seek it out.

I'm on the picket line outside Amazon at Hudson Yards in NYC. I've been a member of IATSE Local 700 Editors Guild since I was 22 years old in 1985. Solidarity with writers, actors, and all workers.

I'm 59. When I was born, segregation existed, interracial marriage was illegal and women were not allowed to have credit cards in their own names until I was 11 years old. CIVIL RIGHTS ARE A NEW THING.

@EarlOfEdgecombe@mstdn.social avatar

@ArmyGirl @Marenzers @Jennifer_Pinkley @StillIRise1963 New York City public schools are more segregated now than they were in the 1960s. I live in NYC and have raised two daughters in the public school system here. There are many factors involved, but a major one is simply that privileged white parents are very often racist and see non-white children as a sign of a poor school.

Here's one of many articles about it, in case people from elsewhere find it hard to believe:
