The algorithm over on Threads is getting weird. My feed is dominated by these first-person slice-of-life stories, almost all women, things that happened: good/bad dates, weird work situations, brushes with danger. All quite, um, “engaging”.

Interspersed with people I follow posting the stuff they usually do.

It’s not bad as such. I usually end up reading one or two. I wonder if people sat in a room and picked this strategy, or it’s a consequence of engagement-seeking heuristics.

I do wonder how many people are staying on Twitter due to follower count alone. Having had an account for over a decade, I'd have previously estimated about 20% of my followers were dead accounts. Based on now leaving and making new accounts on other platforms, my estimate is closer to 90%.

As a blogger I've always known only like 1% of people who retweet/like a post actually clicked the link and read the article, but I assumed that was just a social media thing. Having experimented with basically every other platform, I learned it's more likely that a significant number of Twitter engagements are fake, and those that aren't don't really care enough to read your work, they'll just give you a retweet/like for appearances.

I have other news for Musk. The videos part of the "X Everything App" has an existing website as well called XVideos (NSFW obviously) which has a dot-com address and probably trademarked too. I imagine XPics, XChat, etc. has similar issues in the adult entertainment demographic. If it doesn't it will from Unix/XWindows or XBox world. When he tried this shit back in the PayPal days he was literally kicked out of the company after they finally convinced him to take a vacation. With teams of sycophants and bobbleheads nothing stops his juvenile impulses. @evan I don't think so, no... But for better guidelines I would personally recommend visiting the WGA-West & WGA-East websites, as well as SAG-AFTRA since here officially on strike too.

And/or ask professional writers & actors whom you know personally & trust to be well-informed.

@danyork Far as I know, far as I've tried, far as I can find on the 'Net, you cannot start a Threads account without first having an Instagram account; and you've gotta actively download the Threads app to your phone and activate your Threads account manually by yourself. No signing-up for Threads without 1st signing-up for Instagram, for now. Far as I can tell...

@ErikJonker Instagram's Adam Moserri said that ActivityPub support wasn't ready in time to be included at launch... But the way many if not most instance admins are "evil eye"-ing Threads I wouldn't think it was in their best interest anyway to launch with support.
