In my stupid tech heavy hotel room waiting for "the engineer" to come and show me how to turn the lights on because all the stupid "remote" does is make the walls different colors.

I also had to figure out how to turn the bed into a bed because the room is so tiny it is stored in couch mode. There are no instructions in the room. What fresh hell is this, millennials?

Happy !

I'm still not up to Black History! I'm still working through white US history. Bear with me! Almost there!

Q: Why does it seem like everything has to be woke now? Even our scientists?! It never used to be that way! Why does it seem like these days, even higher education has to think about race, when it didn't before?

A: Higher education, including STEM, did think about race before. That history has just been hidden from you. Because racism.

I got my city council to talk earnestly about revising the parking code. All it took was to baffle them with math concluding that a hypothetical development in a zone they have targeted for high density would literally be more than half parking lot. I need to buy a white board so I can Katie Porter them properly.

A short thread on accessing in the US if you test positive for , based on what I've learned today when my 17yo tested positive. Thread includes on being prepared for your inevitable positive test.
1/12
*I will update the count when I'm done.

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

2/12 First of all, you need to test. We only have the free home test kids that were distributed by the Federal government via the post office.

Order your tests here: https://store.usps.com/store/results?Ntt=covid&_requestid=377312

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

3/12 So you have some symptoms and you took a test and you got just the faintest whisper of a second line, congratulations, you have COVID. May as well report your test results: https://report.makemytestcount.org/

If you don't live alone, I hope you have masks, you'll need them. Either way, open the windows and turn your HVAC up to constantly run on high. If you have a CO2 monitor, then you can start to relax when you see the concentration somewhere south of 700ppm.

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

4/12 So, you have a positive COVID test and you do not want Long COVID. That means antivirals. There are now options for people aged 28 days/at least 7lb and up! See your options here: https://www.cdc.gov/respiratory-viruses/whats-new/antiviral-treatments.html

The treatment options for kids under 12/40kg are intravenous and require 3 days in a healthcare facility. Sorry parents of kids under 12. We started this pandemic with one of those, I know, it sucks.

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

5/12 If you are in the right age and weight band for Paxlovid, how do you get it--in our case, on a Sunday before a Federal holiday, since you have to start treatment within 5 days of symptoms? There are a few options:

  • Test to Treat
  • Telehealth
  • Urgent Care

We'll take those one-at-a-time.

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

6/12 Test-to-Treat is supposedly available in my city, but it's never worked well for me. (In my two times of trying.)

First, here's the Test-to-Treat page: https://aspr.hhs.gov/TestToTreat/Pages/default.aspx

After you hit find locations, it'll let you do a map search. There are two (Walgreens) in my 300,000-person region, both "Sites with no-cost medications for eligible patients."

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

7/12 The nearest Test-to-Treat result was a 12-mile drive away so I called before going. The Walgreens pharmacy was kinda dismissive but upon further probing, gave me clear and detailed information about accessing it.

Walgreens uses an online screening tool to determine eligibility: https://www.walgreens.com/findcarecovidui/covid19/paxlovid

You need to upload blood test results less than 12 mo old showing kidney and liver function. If you have had blood tests, say annual physical bloods, get a copy of your results now.

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

8/12 I didn't have the blood test results for my 17yo, so I can't tell you how things go if you are determined eligible. I was told that a Pharmacist will call you within 3 hours and prescribe over the phone. As long as they have some in stock, you should be good to go! If they don't have any in stock, still get the prescription, you can have it transferred.

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

9/12 So, with Test-to-Treat not an option for us, we were stuck with Telehealth or Urgent Care. My husband has two Telehealth providers as part of his work benefits, and separate to the health insurance.

One is Galileo Health: https://galileohealth.com/

Apparently, it's app-based, we didn't use it. We used the other one, Live Health Online: https://livehealthonline.com/

We were connected to a doc within 10 min. He talked to us and the teenager, discussed his health and gave a prescription.

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

10/12 Urgent care is also an option. In trying to get blood test results for the Walgreens thing I talked to the Urgent Care side of our Primary Care practice. She said if we couldn't find telehealth they'd see us and prescribe Paxlovid if warranted without the blood test results.

Here's the FDA's PAXLOVID Patient Eligibility Screening Checklist Tool for Prescribers: https://www.fda.gov/media/158165/download

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

11/12 Back to our journey, our telehealth provider wrote a prescription and sent it electronically to our preferred pharmacy.

An hour later, my husband went to the pharmacy... they hadn't started to fill it. They checked, and all of their Paxlovid was expired. They called around and found a pharmacy with it in stock, 15 miles away. My husband talked to the pharmacist to confirm, they put a hold on it, and started the prescription.

We need at leasst 17 more people using the hashtag (on public posts) to have a shot of trending.

Why do I care? Because Mastodon isn't the greatest for discoverability. I think BikeNite is a cool community and I would like to see more cyclists able to find us and participate in this a/synchronous weekly structured chat. @mastobikes @fedibikes @bikenite

As for cycling "gear," I only wear it if I'm riding my MTB more than 10 miles. And my women's jerseys have the same pockets that men's do. Maybe MTB shirts don't? I don't fit in those.

Shoot, I should have asked this during . Does anyone have great resources for training corkers/ride leaders for group rides? We improv’d for @KidicalMass last time and I am hoping to do more/better this time. Thanks!

HayiWena,
@HayiWena@mastodon.online avatar

@marcprecipice @KidicalMass Are you looking for something more than the Bike League's Smart Cycling? The guy who started Kidical Mass is a League Cycling Instructor coach--he led my LCI seminar.

Oh, is "corking" stopping traffic? Because LCIs aren't allowed to do that. It's also probably not covered by insurance.

Tips for helping follow the chat when Mastodon's tools sometimes frustrate that:

  • Follow @ascentale, who is the volunteer host right now.

  • Boost any replies you like and/or think others should see. Looking for them helps you follow & boosting them helps others see them.

@skinnylatte I dunno, I feel like UX peaked during the GeoCities years. So much is broken now. Like, I can't get Delta's website to work so I can book a family trip.
