Picked & to make small for Mom. The roses smell divine!

I got the vase for free. It's part of set of 3 glassblown art vases. Got them from a free pile from local estate clear out, a few years ago. I'm good at scoring lots of & rarely buy anything new.

Bouquet of red & deep pink roses with red weigela flowers in a green & white glassbown artisan vase.

@msquebanh I have that same vase!

@msquebanh no idea where mine came from. I get most of my vases from the local swap shop so I always have one handy to give a bouquet and then don’t need to vase back.

Last night with friends one started bemoaning The State Of Things, fear of right wing takeover. Talking about getting out of the country, escaping. They were shocked when I pointed out, this is only because we have rights to roll back. More “freedoms” and protections in law today for more people than ever in history and there isn’t anywhere better to go. My position is we have to defend and fight. For everyone. For the vulnerable. For those w/out the ability to fight and push and advocate.

Rights to privacy and all the case law that stems from it is relatively new. And tenuous in this climate. Fair housing, civil right act, clean water and air legislation, within living memory. These things don’t just happen. People have work and fight for them. And tend them, strengthen them. Defend them.

Just trying to imagine if people a few hundred years ago had been here to witness, in the span of a few weeks, an eclipse, an earthquake, a supernova as bright as the North Star, and an unexpected appearance of the northern lights.

@anildash And the comet. The sky is being freaky this year.

When I went to graduate school, I had to be revaccinated for measles. They told me that people vaccinated between 1963 and 1967 received a faulty dose and may NOT be protected. Please do what's necessary to protect yourself NOW before something bad happens.

@StillIRise1963 I would have initially been vaccinated post 1967 and was told (and looked into it and verified) that measles immunity doesn’t persist. Neither does pertussis. In Europe they have a further booster for pertussis we don’t in US, and the US has had teen and adult whooping cough (pertussis) outbreaks in the last decade too.

Time to harvest the hops! New for me this year is Mt Hood from Great Lake Hops. Brilliant smell and flavor.

Went to fill a prescription of a common generic medicine I’ve taken for years and was told by the pharmacist they didn’t have it, couldn’t get it, and all suppliers were out. They called around and were able to find about half a prescriptions worth and maybe could get some sent from another store. When I asked, said they can’t keep up with all the drugs this is suddenly happening to. Yours could be next.

My friends brother just send her a video he took of a manatee* in Rhode Island. I know the ocean is unprecedentedly warm but wow!

*while they can occur up the east coast, normal range is Florida.

Always discovering new cool things at our . What an interesting idea: you can check out a packet for someone experiencing memory loss to help you spark memories and engage together.

Memory kits in clear plastic bags with red edges and handles. Hanging from a display in a library.

Here’s a hypothetical question not related at all to a presentation I may have gone to today. If you are an academic researcher working on modeling cyber security threats (but not working on mitigating or detecting those threats) how, ethically, do you publish your research?

Another school year starts, another time having The Conversation with my child about what to do if there’s a school shooting/ bomb threat/ armed intruder. It doesn’t get easier. Utterly infuriating in fact.

Have lived in Connecticut for almost 24 years. Still taken aback by the 169 towns (and jurisdictions) packed into this tiny area. Last week got Ellington and Enfield mixed up resulting in a 30 min longer drive. Today just realized East Hampton, which is just north of Haddam and East Haddam, is west and south, by some way, of Hampton. Not to be confused with Hamden, nowhere near. Also, make sure you know if you are going to Plainville or Plainfield (2/3 of the state apart).

Fragrant peony tulips “Angelique” and “Cream Upstar”. Long lasting color deepens and changes over the season and so gorgeously fragrant.

Just found out I got an over winter community garden plot after being on the waitlist. The best part, it’s plot 51.

I get to garden in Area 51!
