Often the main course part of my tummy is full, but the dessert part still has room.

@countcol my youngest daughter insisted she had an entirely separate “dessert stomach” which explained why she was unable to eat any more supper yet could easily consume dessert. I still reference her dessert stomach to this day…

To recap…as of today:

IDF bombs have killed 10,000 Palestinian civilians in 30 days—which is more than the number of Ukrainian civilians killed by Russian bombing in 600+ days. Ukraine’s population is 22X Gaza’s population.

IDF dropped as many bombs on Gaza in 30 days as USA dropped on Afghanistan in 12 months. Afghanistan is 1788X larger than Gaza.

@QasimRashid I’ve been a long time supporter of your political efforts and social media posts but I have to call this post out as purposeful misinformation…
The Hamas run Heath Ministry in Gaza indicated 10K dead but they don’t distinguish between civilians and soldiers in their reporting, so you can’t honestly state “10,000 Palestinian civilians”, as we can’t know how many of the reported dead were civilians vs soldiers. That said, the civilian death toll is clearly massive.

So I was watching one of Trump's lawyers outside the courtroom in NYC today, where they said something like "in 33 years of practicing law that's the best testimony a client has ever given". And I'm thinking to myself this isn't a stupid person saying this, but it sure reminds me of something ... something ... and ...

I realized what it is.

In the original "The Twilight Zone" episode "It's a Good Life" (1963), Billy Mumy plays a little boy who is described by Serling as a monster, who can kill anybody, create horrors of all kinds, simply with his mind.

And the adults all live in abject fear of being turned into something horrible and being killed and being "buried in the cornfield."

"It's good that you killed that, Anthony!"

"That's a really fine two-headed gopher you made there Anthony!"

They all said wonderful things about him, for fear of his retribution if they didn't.

One of the most famous of all Twilight Zone episodes. And there it was, in front of a NYC courtroom today. No closing narration by Rod Serling required.

@lauren also reminds me of the statement that Trump “will be the healthiest individual ever elected to the presidency”… here’s where those words came from:

Everything wrong with tech in 2023 (in no particular order)

  1. The obsession with short-term profits severely undermines long-term positive impact.

  2. The lack of diversity among founders and investors propagates harmful exclusion.

  3. The prevalence of poor work-life balance and burnout culture is inhumane and unsustainable.

  4. Too many products optimized for addiction show callous disregard for user well-being.

…And more.

@Daojoan
I can agree with all of these except:
“13. Thoughtless over-automation leading to job loss shows no concern for displaced workers.”
The founders of every automation related company I’ve worked for/with knows they’re going to reduce the need for labor but they also believe that the benefit outweighs the harm:

  1. Making a service/capability more accessible (lower cost, etc.) dominates the labor impacts (e.g. enabling cheaper phone calls via automated switching is worth the loss of an entire class of workers)
  2. Their innovation will lead to new industry opportunities which will eventually dominate the job loss (e.g. enabling new forms of communication via inter-networking will generate greater job growth than the Post Offices ever could delivering letters)

My Instagram notifications are literally just name-then-random-numbers accounts faving every photo and the profiles are pretty much identical: 30ish Asian woman who claims to be a single parent, working in tech, and way into golf for some reason

@mathowie on the dating apps, this same class of accounts are often scammers. I've wondered if they choose golf because they expect golfers tend to be more well off, so more juicy targets?

@Free_Press is far more lost than most in the west appear willing to admit. How long must it take to correct from such mass delusion? A whole generation or two? Or will the social/economic cataclysm of war defeat speed the process along?

@stevesilberman Absolutely sickening to read. Given video evidence of his monstrous crimes was readily findable, the law enforcement members who failed the multiple victims who previously reported assaults should also be held to account for dereliction of duty.
