Something very strange and rare is happening outside in our new season of the autumn-winter monsoon. Suddenly there is light. It seems to come from the sky. The sky is suspiciously blue. I do must leave the house and let me touch by that alien phenomenon.

I hated homework in #needlework at school. Now I have to #embroider my name until our International #Embroidery Festival. Our embroidery club displays a big board with the first names of all members. Almost all of them embroider traditional patterns in cross stitch. I have to be stubborn again and immortalise myself in #moss. The preparations for #stitching #moss. Step 2: I cut paper shapes of the places where the moss should be three-dimensionally and thick.
A choice of green felts and fabric rests. I use them for upholstering the stitches and have to cut forms with the help of my paper shapes.
Step 1: I draw the layout free hand on white embroidery fabric. I will fill the curves of the letters of Petra with moss, as well as some spots around them.

I mostly work on 2-3 #BiodiversityShrines at a time. Colias palaeno once was a typical #butterfly of the #Vosges, today it is probably #extinct. Its problem: #wetlands as habitat were destroyed or vanish now by #droughts. The butterfly feeds exclusively on Vaccinium uliginosum, but this plant needs wetlands and colder climate. Finally the penny has dropped! I have an exhibition showcase at a rather conservative #embroidery festival. My #BiodiversityShrines are provocative in a region with farmers who spray pesticides twice when the soil is broken (their logic) and far too many people vote for Le Pen. My idea: I build them up as #archaeological #museum exhibits from the #future! #Subversive. #Upcycling. #SlowFashion I have old #jackets that no longer fit me at the arms and in the broader shoulders (muscles are apparently not intended for women). I didn't want to give away this piece of pure #linen.
What happens if I radically cut out the too-tight ugly sleeves? It changes! Fits, except at the waist. A simple trick: I remove the buttons. And close it with a single beautiful button that sits in the place of the left one. I just have to hem the sleeves again, done! #waistcoat @sewing

One of the topics this summer in our #CulturalHeritage Centre will be natural #cordage, #fibres from nature and the old #traditions of these plants: #brambles, #nettles, #hemp or #linen. Eine Straße länger nicht erlebt zu haben, gibt einem ein Gefühl für Veränderungen. Heute mal eine andere Strecke vom Elsass nach Deutschland gefahren. Spontaneindruck: Ein unsäglicher Niedergang durch wachsende Armut seit der Inflation auf französischer Seite.

Ein unsäglicher Rückgang von idyllischen Dorfgärten und Blüten auf der deutschen Seite, wo man sich offenbar durch Horror-Betonanpflanzungen ans Artensterben zu gewöhnen versucht. Schotter ist out, Totalversiegelung in.

I was amazed to find so many shelves empty in our hypermarket on a Tuesday. Until I saw the information signs. If hypermarket chains in France are fighting back like this, there's a lot wrong with the food corporations.

People can hardly shop anyway because of inflation. Other supermarkets are also boycotting brands, some quietly.

If you are in France, partially empty shelves at the moment are due to this political trade dispute. The missing products exist. (And you find products from others).

Essen ist Kultur. Manchmal gibt's einen Culture Clash. Hier in Frankreich verkauft eine deutsche Firma eingelegte Gurken als ‘Cornichons Russes’. Wie alle griff ich spontan zur Elsässer Marke mit der Aufschrift ‘Cornichons Aigre-Doux’ (süßsaure Gurken, auch Molossol). Nicht nur wegen des Lokalbezugs.
"Russisch" produziert Ladenhüter. Es mag noch so lecker sein, es verdirbt den Appetit. Ich frag mich, ob die Gurken noch in De laufen oder exportiert wurden, weil sie dort auch niemand wollte. 🤔

In June, a group of 20 ten-year-olds are doing a school project on #fabrics and #culturalHeritage. And I'm learning something new: together with our boss, a former teacher, and the president of the association, I'm in charge of the morning in our #museum. He will give a guided tour, and we women will teach #collages (topic: nature) using #fabric and #paper. I'm preparing a treasure chest with material for feeling textures and paper butterflies. Every child can take treasures and exchange them.
