I really like the per-website permissions.

I don't use tab stacks and don't understand why anyone does.

I've started to use workspaces. I'll probably make more use of them going forward.

FROM: Survey/Contact Team 4949-29303218-32-993940-49333 - Outer Rim (30219) Sector 9392-201
SUBJECT: Status Change for Survey Object 30292302920-3934443304824-19403-3

Please update the primary survey database for the Survey Object referenced above (native aliases Sol-3/Terra/Earth) to FULL QUARANTINE status.

Justification:

Current status is LIMITED QUARANTINE, with a routine resurvey interval of 100,000 orbital cycles of the Survey Object.

Due to very recent unrelated survey operations in the immediate vicinity of this Object (125 parsecs away) the opportunity was taken to resurvey the Object out of the routine schedule. The results of that survey (see attachment) are dismal to say the least, and warrant FULL QUARANTINE status be immediately applied and routine resurveys suspended indefinitely.

If you have any questions, please contact my team coordinator or feel free to reach out to me directly.

"Arizona prison officials said Sunday they are investigating the causes and consequences of a disturbance that broke out in a section of Perryville women's prison in Goodyear on Friday.

At least four women inside the prison, as well as civil rights advocates on their behalf, said in emails and interviews that a violent disturbance unfolded after women complained about sweltering temperatures inside their cells."

"After the standoff and pepper spraying, some women began breaking things and lighting trash cans on fire, which led to 30-40 women being "fogged" with tear gas and handcuffed, according to emails from women detained."

So, in order to affect a few misbehaving people, the prison officials gassed a bunch of people who weren't causing trouble?

I shared this privately before, but I just got the okay to share it in public. The Bluegrass Archive is online with a website and everything. This is a MASSIVE trove of legal live recordings from earliest days right up to now, which you can download and listen to for free. It is one of the greatest achievements of the fan-driven archiving community I've ever seen. I contributed a small number of filesets out of the thousands here.

    Who's the most American band?

    What does that even mean to you?
    :blobcatthink:

    RandomOxen,
    @RandomOxen@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SrRochardBunson

    I'm thinking the most American band should be one of the Southern Rock bands from the '70s.

    And once I go there, it's hard not to choose Lynyrd Skynyrd.

    RandomOxen,
    @RandomOxen@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SrRochardBunson

    One could go old-timey and choose a bluegrass band like Flatt & Scruggs. I love hearing banjos and fiddles.

    RandomOxen,
    @RandomOxen@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SrRochardBunson

    It's hard to argue against choosing them.

    I picked Skynyrd in part because of a story an AF MSgt told me. He stationed in Japan or Korea. He was at a strip club. The dancer asked the boys which song she should strip to. And someone called out "Free Bird". She didn't have the song and was booed off the stage. Summary: Soldiers wouldn't let a woman take off her clothes for them, because of no "Free Bird".

    RandomOxen,
    @RandomOxen@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SrRochardBunson

    Two more possible choices:

    The Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section

    The Wrecking Crew

    RandomOxen,
    @RandomOxen@hachyderm.io avatar

    @SrRochardBunson

    I think it was just one more instance of that phenomenon.

    Scifi Mastodon, please come to my aid!

    I am trying to compile a list of vintage scifi stories that feature Andean Indians able to breath the rarefied atmosphere of the planet Mars.

    This is of course impossible, but was a popular motif in scifi back around the 1950s. I seem to remember it appearing in an Arthur C. Clarke science fact book, then appearing in several stories by other authors. But I can't remember the titles or authors.

    I think one was Crucifixus Etiam, by Walter Miller Jr.
