Edit: His account HAS been suspended. However, in the Tusky app and in the Megalodon app, his account is visible, as are his posts, and I can still reply to him.

my parents like going to the beach, but only in November. They're away right now. This means I get to use their sauna without being social with them, which, although I do love hanging out with them since they are delightful people, is a treat.

This article shows five examples, including this crab bridge on Christmas Island. There's even an aerial monkey crossing in Brazil.

Today makes 6 years since my wedding reception, which was at my parents' house, and catered by Spouse's sister, who owns a Jamaican restaurant. My sister and her kids came (my brother lives far away and couldn't make it), and Spouse's mother and two of their three sisters came (including the one who brought the food obviously). We had so many donated treats from friends, a great DJ (me), and good times were had by all. I love them so much.

I love Follow Fridays, but honestly some "Unfollow Mondays" would be helpful too. Controversial of course but hear me out: it could be for things like

-this account calls itself "History of Medicine" but only rarely posts stuff about medicine and never uses alt text
-hasn't posted since 2017
-obnoxious and argumentative jerk but always keeps it just this side of reportable harassment

apropos of nothing... vitamin C does nothing for your cold*. Linus Pauling's turn from brilliant chemist to, basically, Richard Dawkins, is responsible for that myth. Regular ingestion of vitamin C might help boost your immune system. Massive doses after you're already sick do nothing.

Mary Equi, one of the first people in the USA known to have two moms. She was adopted by Dr. Marie Equi and raised by her and Equi's (not legal) wife, Harriet Speckert. She was the first female pilot in Oregon and one of the youngest people to become a pilot at that time.

Unsurprisingly "predictive policing" software fails to predict crimes but does reliably send cops into Black and brown neighborhoods.

So much of "policing tools" is a grift, it turns out. The data behind the non-lethality of tasers is suspect. The science behind accepted forensic science e.g. fingerprints is far from solid. Cops' claims about preventing or solving crimes are exaggerated. It's fakery all the way down.

I've tried Fedilab and Tusky extensively and I think Tusky has the best interface. It's smooth is what it is.

Fedilab has a few extra features I wish Tusky had (e.g. enabling quotes, not erasing the contents of the search bar if you switch from searching words to accounts or accounts to hashtags). But it's clunky and it reliably would NOT load people's timelines when I looked up their handles.
