Well that didn't take too long:

'sources' are now saying that Natalie Elphicke did not so much experience a political conversion as storm out of the Tory party having twice been refused Ministerial posts.

And, more explicitly Tories seem to be happy to say that it was her conduct in trying to excuse her husband's conviction for sexual assault (for which she has belatedly apologised).

No surprise the Tories want to depict her as tainted... & perhaps no surprise Streeting is defending her!

Natalie Elphicke has reportedly apologised for maligning the victims of sexual assault at the hands of her ex-husband.

I say reportedly, as this has only come 4 years after Charlie Elphicke's conviction, and after Labour MPs expressed concern about her being welcomed as a defector from the Conservatives.

Amongst those who had issues with Elphicke's defection, was Jess Philips, the former Shadow Minister for Domestic Violence and Safeguarding.

When 0.6% growth of GDP (for the first Q of 2024) is reported as stronger than expected... you know that we have seriously downgraded our expectations about the UK's economic plight.

0.6% might end up looking like 2% + growth over the year, but don't get all happy, most of this 'growth' took place in services, which continue to have (as is well known) problems enhancing productivity... and productivity is the likely key to a revival of workers' real wages!

Nope, we're not out of the woods!

Ancrum Arts - 4 years on

We acquired this steel woodpecker 4 years ago (or maybe 5) at Ancrum. It occupies a half trunk alongside the Borders Abbey Way which runs through our ‘garden’ (wild wild woods). It has weathered very nicely on both sides and is frequently commented on - which is probably because while we have two pairs of woodies in the woods, they are easy to hear and difficult to see.

@bampot in general, the dirtier the water, the happier the dog is in it....

Although I had a beagle that loved a hot bath as long as it had bubble bath in it, she would get in before you could, or join you...

@Wen @bampot Mum had an alsation who loved boggy stagnant smelly water, she would wade and roll in it. You couldn't get her near vaguely clean water.

And of course my spangle/retriever-lab cross, who was a great swimmer. But labs and spaniels do tend to be.

Comparing the Nazis to the State of Israel is not antisemitic. To begin, not all Jews are represented by the State of Israel or it's government, nor al Israelis for that mater.

But secondly, the Nazis carried out a genocide against people that where citizens of their own State, or citizens of occupied territories, on account of their ethnical identity. That is the same thing Israel is doing in Gaza and the West Bank.
