So we have via rail tickets booked for August and naturally I loaded the tickets in Apple Walletโ€ฆ then a few days later I got an email saying the schedule was going to change and now Iโ€™ve gotten 2 new sets of tickets and Iโ€™m sick of adding and deleting tickets ๐Ÿฅธ I should be able to just use the same set of tickets regardless of what schedule changes but Iโ€™m annoyed at this process. If the time changes by 5 minutes and I need a whole new set of tickets? Gesusโ€ฆ

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@grivettcarnac I add the ticket bar codes to the calendar event.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@grivettcarnac We've done it for years. Put each trip as a separate calendar event (OTT->MTL, MTL->OTT, for example). Looks like this:

OTT-MTL T22-C5-6C&D
(train 22, Car 5, Seats 6C&D) This way, I have where we are headed at a glance, and the two car codes are labeled with each of our names.

Wednesday:
104 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
30 minutes of HIIT
20 minutes of strength training
23km of (16ยฐC)

Then, a quick shower, and biked to todayโ€™s site, spent two hours in a comfortable server room (quite cool to normal types), broke for lunch, then spent two hours pulling fibre outside, couldn't figure out why I was dying, biked home, and saw that there was a Humidex of 38ยฐC.

Oh. No wonder.

Can it be winter now please and thank you?

PLEASE?

I just wasted about 2 hours of my time trying to figure out why a server would only connect at 100Mbit instead of the expected 1Gbit.

I had all sorts of ideas, NIC, driver, driver settings, switch related ... and in the end, I almost don't dare to say it, it turned out to be a cabling problem ... you know, there's a tiny little difference between a Cat5 and a Cat5e cable ...

Who the heck still has Cat5 patch cables lying around?!! ... me, for example ๐Ÿ˜ฑ but one less now!!

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@riaschissl Oh, it happens. The important thing is that you learned from it. Next time you'll check the cable sooner in the debug process.

Spent the afternoon setting up my new MacBook Air, installing loads of software. I like to do this manually, leaving behind all the unnecessary stuff from my former MacBook I donโ€™t intend to use on the new machineโ€ฆ

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@sebastianhahn I don't always do this, but whenever there's a major change (processors; PowerPC โ†’ Intel โ†’ M-series), I always start fresh to avoid digital debris.

Also realized Iโ€™ve been a Mac user for twenty years now. Huh.

Grossest marketing trend Iโ€™ve been seeing lately: companies sending you an email after you browsed their website, asking if you โ€œforgotโ€ to buy something.

Sometimes Iโ€™m logged in, and sometimes itโ€™s a device-level cookie making the connection. Even with every privacy setting I can find turned on, plus as much network stuff as possible.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@bomkatt @MythingPerson That is seriously creepy.

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@bomkatt @MythingPerson Likewise, and you're right, it's gross.

I know it's there because it converts, but I wonder if they're tracking lost future sales by people turned off by it. ๐Ÿค” Suppose we'd have to tell them.

Tuesday:
101 seconds of plank
11 minutes of yoga for runners
20 minutes of HITT
30 minutes of strength training
7.4 km of (18ยฐC, light rain)

Pretty good morning workouts, all told. Enjoyed the light rain which I expected to turn into a downpour based on the radar, but for whatever reason, I missed it.

My onsite today was cancelled, so I'm playing catchup on other work before I go make lunch.

1) Recreational path lined by trees 2) Rideau River seen through some brush and trees, dark clouds in the sky 3) Rideau River, seen from the Adawe crossing, trees lining both sides. 4) gravel path through Strathcona park, mixture of old and young trees, grass.

NEW EPISODE!

"Winter Cycling in Oil Country"

An unlikely cycling revolution is happening in Edmonton, Alberta. Despite freezing temps, lots of sprawl and an economy built on pulling oil out of the Albertan tar sands, the Canadian city is in the midst of a four-year, $100 million CAD investment in active transportation that will connect the city with a network of high-quality, protected bike lanes.

Hear from the folks making it happen!

It was raining cats & dogs ๐ŸŒง๏ธ and I came back home completely drenched ๐Ÿ’ฆ

Afterwards I will help coaching my son's pre-school swimming lesson. It's not exactly an intense effort, but it's 30' floating and moving in the pool, so it isn't light exercise either.

Basically a day in water! ๐Ÿ˜‚

WTL,
@WTL@mastodon.social avatar

@s1m0n4 Pretty nice time given the conditions! I enjoy running in the rain. I don't particularly enjoy the dry to wet transition, though. Once I'm soaked, I'm pretty happy. And will start splashing in puddles to please my internal child.

WTL,

Taper 1. T-5d. Rennsteiglauf in Germany. 74km with 1874m of EG and 1386m of EL. A โ€œclassicโ€ in Germany. 51st edition. With up to 2500 participants (and 15000 in total over all events). Taking place in the โ€œThรผringer Waldโ€ Mittelgebirge (most known is Oberhof for its Biathlon events during the winter). Will be cool. Though it is kind of my A-goal race I am planning to do the race to be able to enjoy it as much as possible while also racing. It is a huge festival in the area. And I donโ€™t want to miss out the party feeling at the aid stations. Zoom in at the screenshot. Amazing number and supply.
