Am 12. November 1990 beginnt der Auftakt der brutalen Räumungsaktion der Mainzer Straße durch die Westberliner Polizei in Berlin-Friedrichshain, die zwei Tage später ihren gewalttätigen Höhepunkt finden wird.

Nachdem am Mittag des 12. Novembers Besetzer*innen der Mainzer Straße gegen die Räumungen von besetzten Häusern in anderen Teilen der Stadt demonstrieren, erfolgen erste Angriffe der Polizei auf Menschen und Einrichtungen in der Mainzer.

Im Verlauf des 12. Nov. kommt es zu Straßenschlachten, die Besetzerinnen errichten Barrikaden und wehren sich erfolgreich gegen ein Polizeigroßaufgebot. Am Abend werden sogar Straßenbahnen gestoppt und als Blockade genutzt, um Polizeiwägen aus Richtung Boxhagener Straße aufzuhalten. Eine Menschenkette von Räumungsgegnerinnen, darunter Politprominenz, wird von der Polizei mit Wasserwerfern & Tränengas attackiert.

Trotzdem scheint am 12. Nov. noch die Aussicht auf Verhandlung zu bestehen, weitere Eskalation abwendbar.

Seit Mai '90 besetzten Menschen leerstehende Häuser in der Mainzer, konnten sich seither gegen Staatsmacht und Neonazis wehren und erschufen Freiräume die zeigen, dass die Geschichte der Mainzer 1990 mehr als nur die ihrer Räumung ist...
