The Wok Shop cafe on Van Ness & Sutter remains one of the best Chinese restaurants outside of Chinatown / the Richmond / the Sunset

abhijith,

@skinnylatte Rangoon? Myanmar is neither American nor Chineese. 🤣
Cheers to Rangoon anyway. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alceWhaicrU

abhijith,

@skinnylatte I know. We have Indian Chinese food too. As long as you have noodles or fried rice with two sauces it is branded as Chinese. Wait.. if "X" dish exists already and you mix Schezwan sauce into it you get "X Chinese". Then there are elite restaurants who claim to serve authentic Chinese food where only sophisticated people go.

abhijith, to nepal

I have never understood Nepal. All my childhood I was told it is a Hindu monarchy. Suddenly there was a Maoist government and a new constitution and democracy. Not long ago did they boycott a movie because they found it had derogatory content about a mythological character. Now they have made same sex marriage legal. This mysterious mountain country has all my love.

Hey if dude wants to flush his prez down the shitter wingmanning genocide, so be it.

Hell of a racist, bigoted, old white fuck hill to die on though.

Yes I'm voting for him cuz other guy is a Nazi.

Churchill loved his colonial racist secret war, and yet I wouldve supported England over Germany despite it.

Simple as.

I think you should as well.

How many Zennials arent going to bother though?

Demotivating the vote is like, the exact reverse of the OFA 2012 playbook.

abhijith,

@brendo @hannu_ikonen Biden should lose his temper start piling criminal cases upon GOP leaders. They must have done horrible shit. Else they wouldn't be GOP leaders.

abhijith,

@ncoca It is the other way too. People who oppose the Russian invasion justify Israel and the support given by US. That is how things are sadly. People see through lenses tinted with allegiance.

Settles into a table at an expensive cafe, getting ready to read my blogs for the week only to have two mums plonk their toddlers next to me, treating this cafe as a creche as their roll their toy trucks on the floor and scream their heads off.

HOW I HATE THIS
Call me a mum/kid hater if you want, but I paid $$$ to deserve some quiet.

Beautiful poem by Ahmed Faraz sung by Mayuri Apte in Jashn-e-Sukhan 2020. The poem starts with the lines that sort of means.. "I am silent as if even the destination is tough. As if meeting you is the moment of separation."

The whole event can be watched on YouTube. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WbROrYnwhGI

abhijith,

@P @msquebanh @Pagan_Animist @ZhiZhu They went for X and Y happened.. they went for Y, Z happened... these are not valid arguments. If things turned out bad, it is not because of proportional representation. Authoritarians have resources and organisation already. They will always suppress us. Important thing is we do not lose our hope. Like Faiz Ahmed Faiz wrote in Urdu..

Creation has alway fought with tyranny
Neither their rituals are new, nor our habits
We have always bloomed flowers in fire
Neither is their defeat new, nor our victory

I was the Buddha baby of Cholon district in 1975 & my family had to deal with one week of line ups from strangers who wanted to see/meet/rub my belly & touch my head for good luck.
It was weird as heck to be told that story & stories surrounding it all, in my early adult years.
You can't tell now but I was the fattest, roundest baby born that year. I emerged from Mom's womb with just one perfect square patch of hair on top of my head. I was round & had many rolls on my arms/legs.

abhijith,

@msquebanh @EllenInEdmonton @Tooden In cold European countries they say things like "they were very warm", "I felt warmth and affection" etc... In India, the phrase in Hindi for similar context goes like "my liver felt the coolness" since we have warmer climate.

None of their players are chosen for any of the leading franchise tournaments abroad.

Yet, after every match, they emerged victorious, and that too in style.

Indian people trying to copy the mainstream western talking points about women in sport look doubly idiotic. Fam, you see pregnant women and young mothers literally carry 20 bricks on their heads on construction sites. You see them wield giant hammers and break stones for a daily wage. What are you trying say? That poor women can be strong because you don't really see them as human? Or that you're insecure that women with your privileges will finally start competing with you?

abhijith,

@Theorem_Poem They are unbelievable.

If women are weak, why do you make them do all the work? If they are strong enough to work, can't they play sport?

Mr. Idiotic Patriarch : The might of the strong is shown not in displaying their strength but in making the weak do all the work. Sportsmen are heroes and are celebrated. Work done by women are not even worthy of reward, forget celebration.

This ⬇️ This is why we're scared.

This is Afghanistan over Only 60 years. Freedom, education, jobs ... to today a woman can not legally be in a public park. Even with an escort. She can't be in public.

abhijith,

@Just_Jen Absolutely. We are already seeing this in Ukraine. Apart from Russia, US and its allies, nobody is interested in taking part in it. Everyone would love to broker peace but no African or Asian country is interested in taking either side. We have sacrificed enough during the world war for the sake of Europe. Nobody is going to do that any more for any country, One would think the US would learn some manners but the way Biden put pressure on the Pakistanis to bring down a democratically elected government and imprison their Prime Minister while he is trying to punish Trump for attempting to do that very crime shows their bigotry and arrogance. I don't know when citizens of first world countries will realize that the leaders who behave like a sheep in their country become wolves while dealing with others.

The funny thing about Malaysians is that we are so used to thinking our country sucks that when folks say otherwise we think they have an ulterior motive and are trying to butter us up 😆

I've lived a couple of years abroad and have travelled extensively. I have come to realise every country has its problems. We in Malaysia, for one, take for granted our relative peace from conflict and natural disasters.

And no guns is also great 😆

abhijith,

@bookstardust @liztai I grew up watching the "Malaysia Truly Asia" ads. The more I talk to Malaysians here the more I realize how true that is. :1279_Flying_Hearts_Red:
