I can find only one major journalism organization -- the Guardian US -- that a) understands the accelerating threats to our democracy; b) relentlessly explains what is happening; and c) has proudly assumed the role of an advocate for saving democracy.

I'm fairly sure that other Big Journalism orgs understand. A (scant) few have even begun to give this the ongoing coverage it requires.

But apart from the Guardian, they can't be bothered to become the advocates we desperately need.

I'll admit this week's blog post was fun to write (even if the topic, demagogues, is unsavory).

How many times do I get to quote Prof. Harold Hill, post the drawing of a stork, and mention that the latest judgment against Trump was for $355 million ($450 million with prejudgment interest)?

The picture is to avoid the 500 error message

That allows the disinformation to be spread from there, including back to the other platforms. “Anyone trying to run a disinformation campaign is going to do it across multiple mainstream platforms,” said Yael Eisenstat, a senior fellow at the nonprofit Cybersecurity for Democracy. “With foreign influence, we are less protected than we were in 2020.” The last X representative to attend one of the information sharing sessions was Ireland-based expert Aaron Rodericks, said the people familiar with the meetings, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss internal matters. Yesterday I sent about 10 people to this page because they were saying the same untrue things about Merrick Garland that I disproved here with facts:

https://terikanefield.com/can-democracy-work-in-america-part-iii-an-msnbc-cnn-conspiracy-theory-and-the-perils-of-legal-punditry/

That's when I realized a new Merrick Garland conspiracy theory had taken hold.

My initial reaction was pure irritation.

A knew what it would take to disprove it. . .

But the GOP are adults (even if they don't act like it) and the Dems have no real control over how Republicans behave. So its irrational to blame the Dems for GOP behavior.

For Trump (and Republicans in general), America's political journalists consistently normalize lies, corruption, racism, misogyny, and blatantly obvious mental confusion. If it's covered as a story, it's a one-day story and everyone moves on.

But Big Journalism rakes Biden and prominent Democrats over the coals when they violate any one of those norms -- in "news" eruptions that go on and on.

This isn't a media blind spot. The only logical explanation at this point is that it's willful.
