@fulelo That was an interesting read. I wonder how many more like the Šapošnikovs are out there.

@fulelo There were a couple living a few blocks from me. Nobody had a clue. I am sure that there are others. Between the spies and the propaganda machine, we've let Russia infiltrate our democracies. It's hard to see Slovakia and Hungary go down that ugly path. I'm just hoping that we don't.

Having a nice ? I bet many of you, , are great at deconstructing things. The boss lady aces wallpaper, furniture and house shoes too, as you can see. Last week she tried Deconstructing 's 'Axis of Resistance' (part two) for - you might want to have a listen to see if she is good at it: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0htcwzj

@fulelo Finally got a chance to listen uninterrupted. I actually liked the longer format and got quite caught up in the stories. I had no clue that the US was so responsible for Iran-backed interests gaining political and economic power in Iraq.

@fulelo Maybe it's because people get interrupted all the time. I often wait until the the middle of the night to listen to pods, because I really lose the thread when I constantly have to stop and restart because of phone calls or my husband wanting to talk. Not everyone can do that.

Difficult day today. Hard to feel faith or hope in the future of our country. They say you get what you give, so I am sending out hugs to everyone else having a hard day today. 🫂

3 good things, despite it all:

  • The ornamental grasses that I cut back and feared I had killed are growing back tall and green

  • Received my collector’s edition Little People set from Mattel today

  • Minor successes with clients at work today

@fulelo Thanks so much to you and your colleagues at The Global Jigsaw for covering the tragedy in . It's disturbing how the world has turned it's back to this horrible situation, but now it seems that the wrong actors have not turned their backs, and are adding to the destruction. It's all so terrible.

Heatwave adaptation is becoming urgent especially for places that can reach human thermal limits.

Here is a question to answer: “How does one stay cool during a heatwave induced power failure?”

Some ideas:

  • solar power
  • backup batteries
  • portable battery-run AC
  • central off-grid cooling centres
  • passive cooling (eg wet towels near windows)

What would you add?

alcinoe,
@alcinoe@mastodon.social avatar

@Cyclist @peterdutoit Exactly. I keep the windows open all night, and close them near dawn. I shut the drapes and pull down the shades. My tiny city lot is all trees. I am not cool, but I can survive with no air conditioner.

alcinoe,
@alcinoe@mastodon.social avatar

@peterdutoit I don't know. They are mostly shitty trees of heaven. A few smaller trees, that sprung up. And Magnolias, Rose of Sharons. Plus a large American Elm that somehow survived. We have plenty of water.

alcinoe,
@alcinoe@mastodon.social avatar
alcinoe,
@alcinoe@mastodon.social avatar

@Cyclist @peterdutoit Well, we never did before, but now the winds have gotten out of control, and those trees are brittle, so I'm not sure we're going to win the war. I am always afraid now. I just hate to kill all those trees.

What is the proper general term for someone who is bent on imposing their religious beliefs on those who do not share them? Like the Taliban, Iran's Revolutionary Guard, the Spanish Conquistadores, ...

Good morning from the boss lady, - it is still very chilly in London!
This she brings you our latest on the disinfo wars in the wake of the horrific attack - the narratives from and from the group.
She worked extra hard this week to turn it around fast, so pls let her know your thoughts once you've heard it:

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/w3ct5hlg

alcinoe,
@alcinoe@mastodon.social avatar

@fulelo I actually listened to it right away, but I couldn't get my thoughts together enough to write. That was an excellent episode. I had heard the false-flag theory soon after the attack from a friend. I just told them to stop reading fake news. I didn't realize that this idea has some reach. The blaming of Ukraine requires the suspension of all logic. It's odd that a terror attack could spawn such speculation. I guess disinformation erodes the mind.

@fulelo After listening to that episode, I began noticing details in articles that were not about Iran, but showed the negative impact of their interference on other countries. For example, the BBC article about the reporter who returned to a changed Syria, and another article describing how the houthi attacks on shipping are impacting supply chains in parts of Africa and disrupting some aid to Sudan.
