And Flickr just picked up my photo to include in their daily explore featured pool :)

That makes 2 of my last 3 photos making their featured stream :)

An Absolutely stunning, one in a lifetime solar event has occurred over the weekend. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be taking a photo of an Aurora lighting up the whole sky near where I lived.

As much as I like Mastodon on principle, with easy 95% of active only on Twitter, I miss being able to interact with many of the streamers I watch or for events like the streamer awards, that is occurring right now.

Getting really sick of ’s shit where the songs you add to your label regularly become “No longer available in your country/region” due to licensing - yet a quick search of apple music shows they are, but the album they are on has changed.

It’s not a new phenomena, and Apple clearly states in it its policy’s this will happen when copyright holders make changes. Annoyingly this is the same for iTunes and purchased digital media too.

For me theres also the whole philosophical debate that you will always own physical media, but being physical you need somewhere to store it, the overheard of digitising it, the fact it will degrade/corrupt over time and having to buy a whole album just for that one song you like.

A devil and the deep blue sea situation.

community, what general security news RSS feeds do y'all monitor beyond, e.g.,

Ars Technica
Threatpost
Krebs on Security?

bcshort,

@eloquence @shellsharks has a big list I became aware of yesterday too https://shellsharks.com/infosec-blogs

@bcshort@aus.social avatar

@shellsharks are you interested in a revised RSS Feeds List, with dead sites removed? Inoreader for me at least is reporting 259 of the feeds in the OPML export as dead URIs?

bcshort,
@bcshort@aus.social avatar

@shellsharks dead dead - like 404/403 etc on the RSS feed - it’s gone :) If you have feedly, yea you can probably do it :)

bcshort,
@bcshort@aus.social avatar

@shellsharks before I do (weekend project) what are your thoughts on inactive feeds? How long before pruning? Also thoughts on feeds that have only 1 or 2 articles ever? :)

bcshort,
@bcshort@aus.social avatar

@shellsharks ta :) Yea, I was thinking making on your second point and definitely thinking about the medium feeds in particular.

I put a feature request in with InoReader last night to see if they could add a couple more filters to feed organisation along these lines.

Going to import the OPML into NetNewsWire tonight and see If I can help with some of this :)

Thanks for putting up with my OCD :)

For folks out there, what’s your routine/strategy for “staying current” in the field? I’ve written about my daily reading routine here for anyone interested.

@shellsharks Thanks for this. Followed :) I then got sucked into various other bits on the website.

Are you planning to restart the podcast sometime? Apple Podcasts last one was end of last December.

Well damn, I just fixed a problem thats been plaguing my the last 6 months.

Up until just now, Every time I rebooted my Mac Mini with the Dell Monitor attached via USB-C Display Port, it would hit the login screen and then kernel panic and reboot. looping.

Unplug monitor, wait for login screen, plug it back in, it was fine. HDMI - fine too.

So what was the issue? Logitech Bluetooth USB Dongle for my MX Keys KB + Mouse.

Issue occurs when dongle is plugged in via monitor, or directly plugged into mac mini. Unplugged, no issues with monitor.

The main problem now is in pre-boot environments before the Apple BT Driver loads - I'm thinking FileVault password and maybe a lesser degree - recovery partition. I'm thinking maybe just having spare keyboard for those situations.

If anyone can confirm if the Logitech MX Keys can be used to enter a password without using the Logitech usb dongle, it would be appreciated (I've already read plenty of older documentation suggesting it cannot)

Another one of ABC's “It your fault as the Consumer” articles. The takeaway from this is our clothes are made overseas and you should wear synthetic fibre clothing longer.

I think the message should be try and buy local if possible, natural fibre clothing. We should be approaching retailers to encourage a shift towards non-synthetic fibre clothing, and we should be asking why the government does not do more to help the local clothing industry.

TIL a userscript extension is available for Safari on iPad/iPhone.

One of the big things I was missing between desktop and mobile device browsers was the ability to run tampermonkey-like scripts, and now I can :) It also means I can remove some apps that have a better web browser + userscript experience than their actual apps (yes, looking at you )

Maybe it's just me, but I feel like there is a significant shift in streamer popularity on happening in the last 6 months.

So many streamers I watch are reducing their streaming hours, or have left entirely. Everyone wants to be a vTuber now.

Streamers I used to regularly see getting up to 6-7k viewers a stream now are lucky to get 2k.

Sure, some of it can attributed to post-covid, but it just seems like streamers who weren't able to make bank during covid are now giving up, and those that did don't need to stream any more.

bcshort,
@bcshort@aus.social avatar

@Kabbaway yea true. I've certainly seen more than one streamer reach giddy heights of popularity only to see them spectacularly flare out and burn as then kept trying to one-up themselves

Look, I’m not following the controversy about whatever it was that ran in the The Sun, but I do have an earnest question:

The people who keep posting about it and self-censoring by typing “The S*n”—what the hell do they think they’re accomplishing?

Grow up. It’s not fucking Voldemort.

Mid June is always a special time in Hobart with the Annual Dark Mofo Festival.

The Spectra installation by Ryoji Ikeda has been a regular landmark of the Festival and can been seen well over 100kms away on a clear night.

it always brings me a sense of joy to see it. A beacon of happiness for me.
