It still feels weird when I see rabbits associated with carrots in media or art since that's actually people doing an unintentional Bugs Bunny reference rather than being based on reality. Like the same feeling as when I see people repeat common misconceptions I guess.

bunny_jane,

@fluffykittycat @NovaSquirrel i haven't had a pet rabbit since childhood but every source I read says they do like carrots. Its just that carrots are only a sometimes food. Like a low level treat. Like a homosapien sneaking cheese from the fridge in the middle of the night. Not like a homosapiensapiens getting a whole chocolate cake. Not like that at all. But still flayrah.

@MrLovenstein TBH IMO secret panel is kind of a legit way to start self care if you've had a hard time with it in the past.

@artefacts I have heard that the guy who wrote The Book on bushido did so while visiting the US after the US Civil War, and that a lot of the weapons used during the Meiji Restoration wars were surplus from the US Civil War.

Second proxy shopping order is in!! Maybe once my other Tamagotchi arrives later today (hopefully) I'll take a photo of all of my virtual pets. The Doritos shakers were a lot smaller than I expected and they do sort of sound like a bag of chips when I shake them.

Game Boy Color for scale. Also my cat is here? Cat for scale too.

    bunny_jane,

@NovaSquirrel Gosh I wish those tiny pocket game consoles had taken off (Pokémon Mini, Sony Pocket Station, Dreamcast VMU). I love the form factor, and the interoperability with consoles, and the simplicity. And I just realized that's a Pocket Pikachu and not a Pokemon Mini lol.

You're making me want to get a virtual pet again. They're so cute.

Since Hasbro/Takara refused to make a good Arcee toy for Rise Of The Beasts, I finally bought the Bumblebee Movie Studio Series toy of Arcee.

It's too hard to get a good Arcee* toy that feels like it's made with the same respects as other Transformers. They almost always have to sacrifice something about the vehicle mode or transformation in order to give her sexy legs.

I think it's only Animated and Cyberverse that don't do that. At least the Bumblebee movie Arcee looks strong.

    *Pink Arcee.

    bunny_jane,

Or sometimes the toy is just kind of a cheap shitty afterthought, like the Rise Of The Beasts toy for Arcee.

And I know it's weird but I'm only counting pink toys somehow inspired by her G1 appearance. The Transformers Prime blue motorcycle Arcee had some great toys, but blue Arcee feels like a different character. I don't know how to explain it.

    bunny_jane,

Arcee is special to me because she's canonically a trans woman in the IDW Transformers comics.

And it started as a problematic story used for shock value. To be honest when I first read it, it came off as if the writers were saying "Transformers are for men and if you feminists try to force yourselves into the fandom then it's like this evil robot scientist making a tortured frankenstein fembot."

But after several years queer writers took over, and Arcee became something special to me.

    bunny_jane,

Before Hasbro took the license from IDW, it had gotten to the point where Arcee was helping other bots discover their genders and the comics featured multiple trans lesbian relationships.

“The new ‘inverse vaccine’ removes the immune system’s memory of one molecule. While such immune memory erasure would be unwanted for infectious diseases, it can stop autoimmune reactions like those seen in multiple sclerosis, type I diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, or Crohn’s disease, in which the immune system attacks a person’s healthy tissues.”

@slothrop @tommyyum So basically a huge conflict of interest. Damn. Hopefully this will be independently tested as well.

@heatherhorns i like the idea of D&D's trap loving just being like really enthusiastic about traps and having only the faintest idea that they could hurt someone.

Like an adventurer comes in and the kobold only bites them because "you ruined my perfect booby trap collection I spent years ans years maintaining and dusting and oh wow there were shiny rocks on the other side of the hallway? Omg no they're mine! I wanna give em to my dragon! Go way! I need to fix the traps!"

Wait so all we gotta do to actually vax and relax our way out of the pandemic is to just make an mRNA cocktail that mixes all the coronavirus proteins we know of that infect humans? And the researchers in this article say it ain't even hard? https://scitechdaily.com/the-future-of-immunity-the-exciting-progress-of-universal-vaccines/

Then why the FUCK isn't that being done???

    bunny_jane,

@eniko It's really really not that easy to make a vaccine that works against every coronavirus. This has taken decades of research. When they say one of the two vaccines is "relatively easy" they're not saying it's easy.

And it's in human trials now so, if it works in humans and not just monkeys, hopefully we'll have it within two years. I'd love if the governments of the world fast-tracked this like they did with the first bunch of covid19 vaccines, so we could get it even sooner.

And here's another book I’ve just finished, for anyone who has studied (or is studying) maths. It’s a lovely gallop through the parts of mathematical history that we don’t hear about, steering away from the stories that focus on the “Great Men” of the white western world, and digging around in a far more global and diverse view of how mathematics was developed. Especially highly recommended for anyone teaching maths at any level. It’s out in a couple of weeks. #maths #books #history

    bunny_jane,

@helenczerski wow the number 4 had a wild ride. It's kind of gratifying to know people have never known how to write a four.

We’ve been travelling by train instead of flying, and this article this article backs up what I’ve experienced, that it is 2-4x more expensive to travel by train than plane.

The Greenpeace director of policy says this is because of fuel taxes, but that just can’t be the whole story. Anybody know what’s going on?

I worry trains are not as environmentally friendly as portrayed.

    https://news.sky.com/story/trains-to-europe-may-be-better-for-the-climate-but-theyre-four-times-more-expensive-than-flying-12924080

    bunny_jane,

@john It's like a 15 foot stripe through the land. It's less impact than a single highway.

How much land is required for airports? Multiple 2.5km runways. Huge parking lots. Huge buildings. It's disruptive to ecosystems in ways that a train station plus tracks wouldn't be. There's constant noise that deafens wildlife. Birds get threatened by jet engines. There's fuel run off. There's extra effects from such a concentration of tarmac and concrete, like heat islands, that a rail doesn't have.
