@molly0xfff that's awesome Molly! It was a great episode. Even for those of us who've been critical of crypto it's been crazy to see just how fast it all crumbled.

I figure they have to put something up on the "Democratic" side. How interesting is it to put anti-democratic extremists against an upholder of democracy?

🔹 The Republican nominee wants to take away social security, criminalize abortion, arm everyone with a semi-automatic weapon, and glorify insurrectionists who attacked the capitol.

🔹The Democratic nominee is 80.

(He also wants to protect social security, guarantee access to abortions, etc.)

@Teri_Kanefield whats crazy is how the media manufactured this whole "is he running" thing, it was never in doubt. Of course he would run.

As I've seen someone else say (I can’t remember his name now) it should be about the STAKES and not the race. The media continues to make it about the race as if both parties support democracy.

The one thing I do think the AT Protocol is better at than is data portability. Being built-in at the protocol layer so that you don’t have to do the migration shit (which doesn’t bring your posts) is better. It just is. I think ActivityPub has more potential overall for the social web beyond just Twitter clones, but that part of is better.

@film_girl @mmasnick yeah I get that! The protocol does look promising 🙂 its all the other baggage I have a hard time with, the non technical stuff of how its funded, how they'll make money etc. Time will tell I suppose.

@film_girl @mmasnick I'm curious how, technology aside - you can reconcile this with the fact Jack is still at the helm, and money still comes from Twitter? Last I read (and please correct if I'm wrong) the purse strings are very much tied there.

If that still is the case and he pulls all support - it still feels very messy. You all tend to follow this close than I so like I said - happy to stand corrected if that isn't valid info anymore. 🙂

People really seem to want to latch on to I'm having a hard time reconciling this. Have we not learned our lesson? It could easily be subjected to the same fate as the bird site. I have no plans to expand to yet another social media platform at this point.

@grork theoretically? In the grand scheme of things bluesky is still a for profit entity run by Jack that will have to figure out how to monetize. I'd prefer more time go into Activity Pub a protocol already proven in the wild. It just seems odd to me folks want to latch on to something by someone who happily signed away Twitter 😕

It's also still somewhat tied to Twitter for funding.

Its funny how they do this every single time. All they want to do is to create chaos, not govern. Raising the debt limit pays for existing debts.

If they want to help fix the problem, they could roll back the Trump tax cuts that cost by 1.7 trillion. Or the Bush tax cuts, that cost 8 trillion since enacted. That's roughly 10T of the debt Republican policies are responsible for.

Being in the sector right now is quite a trip for many reasons. But one big one is watching some truly strange demos as people try to shoe horn into places where it just does not belong. Often to disturbing effect 😬🤣
