Merrick Garland has bungled the January 6 insurrection case against Trump so badly that Trump’s likely not to face trial before the election, which, if he wins, will render everything moot and put the very idea of American democracy at the gravest risk it's ever faced.

But he's got the green bubbles thing covered.

This is one of the most asinine bills I've seen in a while that has broad support. 80% of the house agrees to ban TikTok, but not to enact real data privacy laws that protect us at home, or to improve border security, or prescription drug prices, health care.

But they can agree to get their hands into private business because "China" news flash, data brokers buy and sell our data on a daily basis. But we care about whether or not China has it? We single out TikTok for things every social media company does?

It took me several years to understand what I was seeing.

At first, I thought the problem was Twitter algorithms. I thought that was the explanation for why what I was calling rage-inducing simplifications spread like wildfire.

@Teri_Kanefield I’m sad about this but I understand. Your feed would be among the first places I’d go when a new ruling came out on something. Reading legal texts is tricky for the untrained eye, I struggle with it personally.

The Washington Post does a weekly summary of where the Trump trials are. So far, I have no complaints. The law is presented in a straightforward way, it's accurate, without the breathless hype.

You should be able to access it free through my subscription. Let me know if you have a problem.

They mention what Stephanie explained: The immunity ruling could have implications for Florida and Georgia.

@indivisibleteam I love what you all do and even volunteer to text bank with you! But this is an irresponsible post, this isn't whats happening. They took up one question, immunity - the judge could technically schedule the trial still. And it wouldn't be able to start soon anyway because the NY Criminal trial is happening.

Let's do better, and not outrage farm. It's no surprise SCOTUS wants the last word on what will be a landmark case.

I'll put this response here for everyone:

The Court made a decision. All we can do is speculate about why. Eventually we may know why they elected to proceed in this manner.

Like everyone else, I can speculate on why they proceeded this way, but I refuse.

I predict they'll nix the idea of immunity.

That's different from speculating on what happened in a closed meeting.

(Maybe, as a defense lawyer, I am accustomed to courts not doing what I want them to do or think they should do.)

@Teri_Kanefield I found it interesting they decided to only take up the immunity question and left the double jeopardy decision in place. I predict the same, I bet they want this on the books with certainty if it ever comes up again.

    We live in the worst timeline. The only reason this exists is greed. This means that a photographer who spent years perfecting their craft of product and food won’t get this gig anymore. Instead we’ll get heartless, garbage images which will please the shareholders.

    @Juro I certainly don't disagree, but the chances of us seeing that here is highly unlikely. The more likely scenario, is jobs get taken - and the wealth continues to transfer to the 1%.

    People simply don't understand democracy is a long game, they expect immediate change when in reality they need to vote and keep voting every single time.
