Dropping a random prediction: Trudeau will resign as Liberal leader this summer. Do I have any specific reasons for this? No. I’m a politically connected nobody. But he can stay on and lose to Pierre, even though he wants a no-gloves campaign against him, but why be another Harper, who knew he had no chance in 2015? I think walking away would be a clutch move for him and take all the wind out of “vote for us because Trudeau is the reason for X, Y, Z”

@dan613@ottawa.place avatar

@grivettcarnac I don't see who would do better. Remember that most Canadians aren't politically active, and Trudeau has done very little campaigning. He does very well at town halls, even though conservatives are allowed to ask questions. Many thought he beat Harper in the debates, and Poilievre is no Harper.

@grivettcarnac Liberals are the boogeymen to regressives. It doesn't matter who the leader is.

"CBS News, in partnership with The Trace and Reveal from The Center for Investigative Reporting, reviewed records from hundreds of law enforcement agencies across the United States and found that many had routinely resold or traded in their used duty weapons -- a practice that has sent thousands of guns into the hands of criminals.”

Our lives mean NOTHING to these people. THIS IS A SICK GAME.

What is your dream road trip? Where would you start? Where would you end up? What stops would you make along the way? It can be short or long, whatever interests you!

@CoachMark @RickiTarr @EVDHmn That reminds me of an idea I had a while back. Go to London and drink at a pub at each stop of the longest Underground line. Might take several days.

Y'all I just made myself feel so old, hubs looked up top 100 music from 2001, 2011, 2021, and today and the amount of music I could recognize decreased by significantly. I recognized probably 70% of 2001 and decreasing as I went on. BUT I blame the internet, I can listen to exactly the kind of music I want with no dependence on the radio, but also I'm old!

dan613,
@dan613@ottawa.place avatar

@Yorkshiregeek @RickiTarr The stuff that was popular when we were kids often had a short shelf life. Think about the ones we still listen to, and you can't be blamed for not liking most of what is popular today.

@billyjoebowers It did have cool visualizers, though. iTunes never quite did the job, though you could make your own in QuickTime Composer (RIP). I recreated the colour organs I made in high school shop class.

Joe Biden won all of the debates he had with Trump in 2020 but somehow media people are pretending Trump is good at debating.

In reality, Trump is a crybaby narcissist who spirals into childish rage at the slightest confrontation.

He cowered from multiple debates in 2016 because he couldn't respond to tough questions. He was terrified of debating his Republican challengers in 2024. He also choked against Hillary Clinton in 2016.

https://phanpy.social is a pretty incredible Mastodon client. Entirely web based, looks great on mobile and desktop, you can configure your shortcuts that appear above or below the river of news.

Some screenshots from my own account: good notifications page, different kinds of toots get a different status, plus Boosts are shown in their own carousel.

I've heard one developer made all this, it's pretty incredible.

Boosts are rolled up into a carousel of toots you can view with sideways scrolling
Threads are shown grouped together and single posts from threads are indicated as such.

dan613,
@dan613@ottawa.place avatar

@adnan @mathowie There is a setting to turn that off and put boosts inline.

Me: Thank you. That’s very sweet. I don’t know why.

S: Because we do so many things wrong and you never leave us or threaten to retire.

M: (choking up)You all do so many things RIGHT! Every day is a new day. I get to watch all of you grow. I’m pretty lucky.

S: We’re lucky. Can I have a snack?

The UK government:
we’re releasing dangerous criminals early to relieve delays in the court system.

Also the UK government:
we’re prosecuting people who are doing nothing more than causing minor delays to an economy that, unchecked, will drive us all off a cliff and the court system with it
